Default Rear end side to side movement

Just noticed driving home the other night a dull thunk like something in the boot rolling around but I also spot side to side movement of the diff. Normally I'd put it on the lift and just shake the rear end a bit to find it but the lift is out of action

My guess is Panhard rod bushings, common to go out and on the right track? I gotta have this thing to tow my racecar sunday so I may have to just deal with it till I have time to fix it right.

any side to side rear end movement will be the Panhard rod bushings or the trailing arm bushings. Should be pretty easy to sort out, just jack up the rear and push the axle side to side, look for what has a bit of play

For the panhard rod bushes, you don't lift the car at all. Stand at a rear wheel and look down, grab the wheel arch and rock the car side to side, if you see the body move, the panhard rod bushes are worn and need replacing. About a 20 minute job.

That is exactly what it does, guess I should go on the hunt for a nolathane kit or something then, at any rate they will need doing anyway probably so eh.

So anyone in NZ know somewhere good or do I actually have to start annoying contacts one by one

Check the trailing arm bushes too. Upper and lower. Sometimes they blow out and fall inside themselves, causing the arms to provide NO lateral location. A car with a good panhard and flogged upper control arm bushes will still move side to side a fair whack.

But most likely panhard. Easy easy job

WOW the car handles a lot tighter now, made an unbelievable difference. You could almost swear I'm not driving a tank lol.

PS yes that is all that was left of the bushing, the rest was literally gone, was not in chunks or in a seperate bit, it was gone totally.
