So over the weekend my beloved VP was at my missus' house and overnight someone smashed the rear door quarter window to break in, smashed the ignition switch off the back of the barrel to get it started. They got 3ft before the steering wheel locked so they contented themselves with trying to steal all my electronics but its all wired in so deep they only got my crappy old GPS.
I've read over the guide on how to replace the window which is pretty straight forward, what I wanted to know is it fine to simply super glue the ignition switch back to the barrel face? And is there any way to make it more secure so my car can't simply be started with the heater switch.
Cheers
J.
where are you located?
I'm in Melbourne
ive got a metal jacket surrounding my ignition barrel and wiring... unless they bring grinder with them, they aint getting through! lol
dosent your vp have factory alarm with immobiliser? car shouldnt start unless they bypass the override lock in the door jamb.... dosent matter how much they chew up the ignition and steering column... the fuel pump wont turn on without the remote...
dont sweat the petty... pet the sweaty...
i have the same on my VP, i went to U-Pull it and got one off a VN, heaps of them have it, it's a decent cheap thing to do that would make it a hell of a lot harder to steal a car
although they can still just cut the wires and twitch them maybe, hmmm i might cover the loom in some braided stuff that will work.
steering lock $15, only a deterrent, but will deter amauter joy riders.
Kill switch $3

The immobiliser wiring on VP's doesnt even go into the steering column,it goes from the override switch in the left door jamb,to the BCM or TDM under the dash,so Id love to know how you started it just by accessing the steering column..Maybe the immobilser override keylock was turned off when you started it..
Hey, I was just wondering what activates the security system? Sometimes when I get in my car it asks me to press remote but other times it doesnt? Just curious. Thanks

Since I have to fix some of the wiring they trashed anyway i think I'll just wire in a discrete kill switch under the seat or something. I glued all the plastic back together yesterday and replaced the window ($25 less $5 "they stole all your change" discount) from Commodore Spares.
Thanks for all your input
those steering locks are a joke, 30 seconds to hack saw through the steering wheel and pop that shit right off...

my remote doesnt even work, replaced the batteries but nothing wtf?![]()
My cars ignition switch broke at a servo with the steering lock on.. like f#$k I was going to pay a locksmith $150 to break into my car.
Got the missus to get my metal drill bits. took about 2 minutes to drill the lock past the steering wheel lock and to where i could turn the barrel without a key, the metal is very very soft. Got a new barrel... easy peasy...
Conclusion:
Any idiot with 2 free minutes and a cordless drill and a metal bit can steal your car.
ive used a cordless drill on an old vn calais i bought without keys, couple of minutes drilling out the ignition and job done.but i didnt need to start it just get the steering lock off so i could tow it.

there a deterrent and means extra time to get around it, with a bit of luck they'll move on to the car next to yours. its just extra shit that will slow them down, most people won't bother. Who's going to carry around a hacksaw? They won't becuase they no they can get cars without them. And obviously if someone wants your car bad enough they will get it. But for 15 bucks why not
Just near Chadstone shopping center is where it happened. Just off Warrigal Road.
After going through everything that I took out of my car I've since discovered that they also took the key socket for the lock nuts on my wheels... Guess I'm lucky they didn't have any bricks on them. =\
9 of 10 car thrives that carry a backpack, along with hammer, screw driver, slim jim, and other weapons that might deter someone from interfering with their criminal efforts... ive seen a dude in the states break a window hack trough a steering wheel and screw driver the ignition in under a minute.... your better off using a brake lock...

Vp and VN are always going to get broken into sadly. they are just too easy, make your own immobiliser tuck it somewhere where no one can see or are going to think is there and maybe get some after market locks and maybe alarm system.
Or alternatively just dont park it in the open in bad areas if you dont have the money for that kind of thing.
