I'm looking into fitting the gas struts to the bonnet and removing the bar that holds it up.. So my question is will struts from a vr/vs or even newer work and how far from the hinges do I fit them on? Any pics would help as well if you got them..
i bought a reco'd set off ebay and they do work but there stiff as hell and need a helping hand to spring up. youll also need the mounting knobs that bolt to the top of the guards and the one that screws into the bonnet. its a 10 min job. think the vr vs ones are the same as vp. just go to the wreckers and pocket the 4 bolt knobs and just remember where they go....

Thanks for that.. Will stop at the wreckers tomorrow after work and before I get the kids from school..
I did a how to on it ages ago. It's still here somewhere. VR or VS struts will fit. You just need a nut that will fit on each of the studs that come out of the bonnet as there are no threaded holes on VN bonnets.
Here's the link to the how to.

Was looking at the how to and it's a huge help.. Thanks for that...
Was looking at the bolts on the guards and then looked at the bonnet and it has the holes on the side.. Spoze I don't have to drill holes so I'm half way there
Also make sure you get some flat-top studs for the quarter panel. The standard nuts won't give the struts enough clearance when the bonnet shuts.
They have studs on them, and you do the nut up from underneath. They're the white squares in this picture:
