It all started this morning when the miss's tried to start the wagon, aa aa aa pop, aa aa aa pop.
I got home at lunch and tried to start it. Engine light on, thermo fan on, and no go.
Tried my foot on the go pedal a touch and it started. It would rev its head off, but not idle.
Adjusted the cable so it would idle, then checked the error codes. 12- No problem, no spark at ecu.
Took it for a hammer and all good, except for that light and fan. On the trip home issues started to pop up. Missing at any rev, and a one point a complete drop to nothing for 4 seconds and picked right back up.
Oil, air and fuel filters I changed last weekend.
Now, cant check errors, wagon won't idle with out my foot on the accelerator.
Checked wires for most sensors, haven't checked plugs yet.
I dont know where to start looking for this 1
Any help would be great!!!
Ignition on, engine light on, fans running their tits off, difficult to start & no error codes are identical symptoms to those I once had in my old VN, and are an almost surefire indication of a failing ECU.
Just as an aside, have you recently done any jump starting with the vehicle, either being jump started or jump starting another vehicle? If so, then I would definitely replace the ECU, as these ECUs seem to be very susceptible to voltage spikes (jump starting for example).
Oh one other thing - in my case, the problem with my old VN ECU tended to be intermittent as well.
As above my guess would be a faulty ecu or a dodgy memcal that is in the ecu.
What might be a chance is disconnecting the battery for 10 mins and then trying again. If the symptoms are still there ie. thermos on when the ignition is on then I would be looking at getting hold of another known good ecu/memcal to try.
