My vp Calais has been randomly conks out sometimes the revs go very strange kinda like if your car would run out of petrol mostly seems to happen if i have to start and stop again in traffic but it has happened once on a freeway and seems to be fine for awhile if im able to leave it off for a minute.
wondering of anyone might know what could be doing this.
thanks in advance
Is it a 6 or 8, K's, has the check engine light flashed at all when it happens and have you checked for error codes after it happens at all?
it is a v6 with about 275000 kms on it i havnt seen a check engine light flick on when its happened . and i dont know how to check error codes on it so i havnt done that
does only do it when hot or is it hot and cold?
i wouldnt say hot but when its warmer
hunt through the forums, there's some posts about how to pull codes, i think it's pretty much something like using a safety pin to jump a couple of pins etc. costs you nothing but a couple of minutes, and it might tell you something.
does it restart straight away? or do you have to let it sit? does it hunt around while idling, or does it idle nice and smooth then die?
tried jiggling shit? when the car's warm, let it idle and just start poking around. take the kick panel off the ecu and tap it a few times with a screw driver handle. get under the bonnet and do the same - wiggle the wiring looms, make sure wires are plugged in properly etc.
again, costs nothing but a couple of minutes, and you might get lucky. if not, then start searches here on the forums, and start making a list of possible candidates. this vn forum has been here for years, you'll be surprised how much is buried away. keep posting as you find stuff or dont find stuff, and when you figure it out, make sure you post what you found.
i will give that code thing a crack just found a thread with how to do it .
it will start straight away but but it wont idle properly and dies again unless i leave it sit for a minute
i will try and poke around to and let you guys know what i find or if i can narrow it down
Splash some cold water on the CAS (on the front of the engine, crank pulley) and see what happens. Malfunctioning crank angle sensors are very common![]()

I hope your alternator wiring is tucked behind the alternator. If it sits out front the wiring will rub on the alternator and cause momentary short out. Eventually there will be a fire.
