You can install switches for the windows and run the wires yourself, takes a little time, but not too difficult if you know what your doing, otherwise find somewhere that can does custom aftermarket work and they should be able to do it, won't be the cheapest but it means you can also place them where you want,

As for the other stuff, label where the switches cam from and see if you can adjust the plugs to ones that coincide with the new dash, the hardest part will be ensuring the right wires are meeting, personally, I suggest get a mate whose a qualified autoelectrician to help, or get the car resided which would mean you gotta spend a little more, either way let us know how you go about,

Sounds good just label what wires where for what when you take the old one out, so it makes it easier for him,

Hey mate, I'm gonna reply here instead of the PM just in case it helps others etc.

I installed a VS statesman dash into my VP about a year and a half ago and I must be honest, its a big job, but so worth it!

I need to give a bit of background about my car... its a 92 Berlina with a level 3 trip computer installed, which means that I wanted to use the trip computer switches on the new dash as well. It also has cruise control, and on the VN and VP the cruise control switches are on the right hand side switch block, but on the VR and VS they are on the indicator stalk.

I didn't get an AC switch for my dash so I still use the standard one next to the radio.

Now, in regards to wiring, what I did was I sat down with the left side and right side switch blocks of my car and made circuit diagrams of these blocks. The left side (from memory) had the trip computer switches, the hazard switch, and the wiper control board and switch. The right side block contained the cruise control switches, antenna up and down switches and the interior light switch and the headlight switch.

Once I mapped out the exact wiring configuration of my cars main dash switches, I then gathered all the switches for the new dash and did the same thing; make a circuit diagram of the hazard switch, the demister switch, the headlight switch, the trip computer module and the cruise control section of the new indicator stalk.

With these diagrams, I had to adapt the wiring requirements of each switch to the new switch. Its hard to describe... I figured out what was commonly needed with each plug, and routed the wires from the original car plug to the new plug that would connect to the new switch.

In this fashion, I was able to keep my original VP loom intact, and instead just buy new plugs from upullit to be used for adapters.

In total, I made an adapter for the headlights using two relays, an adapter for the cruise control switches, another adapter for the wipers, and one other for the trip computer, hazard and demister switch, since they used the same plug on the VP loom.

unfortunately, I'm not near my diagrams that I made, and I have been meaning to create computerized copies for ages now, so when I get a chance, I'll scan them and document them and put them on the net for everyone to use. It may be a few weeks however.

I am certain that with the circuit diagrams, anyone could get this conversion done, with or without the help of an electrician.I've been driving the car around with the new dash in ever since and I do not regret it one bit!

Mind you, the car is missing i'ts engine right now, cos I'm doing a 5l conversion now... haha

No worries mate. If I get a chance this week, I'll go get the book from the house that it's at and start the conversion to digital for you

That would have taken a fair while to do, but from the sounds of it was well worth the work, when you made the wiring diagrams did you have many troubles figuring out each individual wire? Or did you source them from the net aswell??

It did. I started poking around with a multimeter about 6 months before I did the dash install, mainly because I wanted to be absolutely certain I had everything ready to do before putting it all in. Since I was literally making adapters between the VP loom and the VS switch plugs, I actually was able to sit in the car with half the dash off and plug in the VS stuff and still control everything, even before the new dash went in.

Many times I would just open the switch carefully and look at how the internal mechanism worked, or just blindly probe with a multimeter until I got a good picture of what was happening, but every time I did, I usually ended up opening up the switch just to be sure. Suffice it to say, it was long work.

Just so you all know, I managed to get my notes today and have started creating pinout data and will focus on circuit diagrams tomorrow. No promises, but I intend to get something up and publicly available asap.

vn88holden, could you please tell me what switch options you have on the left and right side switch blocks? I have a feeling you may need more than what I can give you, depending on what configuration you have... for example, some models have the dimmer on the left, some on the right, some use a sliding control etc. In my case, my car used a dimmer switch, on the right block.

No worries mate, its a good excuse to finally digitize my notes. If you can use any of it, then it doesn't go to waste.

Anyway, ok so it looks like you have Hazard, Demister and.. Dome (?) and of course the wiper controls on the left block, and Dimmer and headlights on the right?

If this is the case, my wiring diagrams for the switch blocks *may not* be 100% what you need. The pins themselves might be... anyway I'll do these asap for you.

The pin outs for the VR VS switches are still useful in any case as these don't really change.

    Anyway, back to it!

really appreciate it mate, cant wait to start putting dash in. on a side note did you use the vr steering column at all with the blinker stick and wiper stick. my blinker stick has the cruise control buttons is that straight forward. i probably wont do that just use it as a normal blinker with high beam.

All the info you need is here already, Wiring diagram's etc Everything.

I did the same conversion not to long ago with help from this forum.

If i had the time to do it over i would of replaced the firewall with one from the VR instead of ####ing around cutting this trimming that gluing this etc etc to get it to line up.

Apart from the electrics ( which were easy with the wiring diagram's ) Cutting the demister vents from the old vn-vp dash and grafting them onto the vr Dash was probably the most anoying part.

The only Advice i can give you is to replace the firewall, And run a VR loom, Its Great if you get a recked calais or Berlina, Full electrics etc etc, Will just work, Without having to muck around with anything.

Plus youll get a tilt and reach steering colum

yeah i have a complete vr wagon at my disposal problem is when they took motor and box out they cut the wires. or is the loom inside seperate from engine bay. yes i agree with the tilt and reach column im putting that on now hehe.

The problem with doing a firewall replacement is its extremely hard to get a firewall out of a car, and then trying to put it back into a totally different car. I mean, anything that bolts onto the firewall needs to be removed, even the front windscreen, which can be quite expensive.

I agree with Davo, the VN/VP demister to VR/VS dash shit is probably the hardest and most shittiest part. I have to redo mine actually...

In any case, I'll just throw this out here:

The firewalls are just Glued in on these models. Windscreen does haft to be removed.

Weld it in when you re-install it.
