Any one know why odometres work one minute stop the next ive got a vp 4.9l auto and its p€€sing me off. Any ideas guys
Does the speedo still work? Mine both stopped and it was the speedo sensor on the back of the auto..
if ya speedo is still working..it means the cog that runs the odo has broken teeth on it, or is about to break
very easy and cheap to fix,..
All you gotta do is, take the cluster out, open it up..and remove the odo cog,.. a new cog on ebay is like $10.. or go to the wreckers and get one, I will find you a How to guide, it's got pics to help aswell
Does it have the LCD screens or the numbers that turn over on drums?
Cheers speedo still works so i guess its th cog on its way out, isnt takin the dash cluster out a bit of a pain, if im goin to do that i might replace black facia with a red one itll look better seeing as car is red. Cheers
Its actually very easy,.. There are two screws that face up on your cluster, undo them.. then the buttons on the right and left will come off with the shroud .. undo the clips, then pull the cluster out, VERY easy.
Then undo the cluster itself, there are screws , and its very easy to do
But if you're going to change the fascia over, then id recommenced wait till you have it![]()
Sorry for hijacking your thread but I have a similar problem. odo stopped working and speedo is intermittent. Would the one cog effect both or are there 2 cogs I need to replace? Thanks.
Sorry to highjack too. My vs odo always worked but on cold mornings the speedo didn't for the first half hour of driving. Only ever did it in winter and odo still ticked over
From my experience, it was just the one cog that would affect.
If you're speedo is intermittent, I'd be checking you're Speed Sensors, chances are it's ready to die.
it's at the back end of transmission i think on the drivers side
Chances are you have a sticky speedo.. Normally, just bang the top of the cluster to work, but.. The reason why its doing that is, a solder connection in the Cluster is in poor condition, and will cause this.. It's very easy to fix, just resolder the connectionI can find a pic if you need.
It's very common problem in Vn's to Vs's. . VT onwards, Im not sure tho.
Already sold. Just curious![]()
