Found my water pump was leaking this morning so ducked off & bought a new one. Removing the bolts from the old water pump though, the 3/8 bolt at the bottom centre of the pump snapped. I got the old pump off & found that the bolt actually snapped off about 3mm into the threaded hole. My problem now is can I go without this bolt (doubt it very much) & if not, how am I going to get the S.O.B. out of there so I can get a new one in? From what I know of them an EasyOut isn't going to work in this situation. Will I be able to drill out the old bolt & then run a new thread through there or is the cover too thin to allow that?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Actually from what you have described, an Easy out might just do the job, especially if you spray some penetrating fluid (WD40, etc) into the affected area and let it soak in for a while.
Having said that, I'm not a massive fan of Easy outs. Apparently it is not unknown for them to break off themselves, leaving an even bigger problem.
Timing cover off.

He's got all the gear I could need so I'll tackle it there. I just hope I'll be able to run a new thread into the timing cover if I can't get the remaining bolt out with an easy out.
