ok here is the short end of the story, i got myself a VP Calais, now for many months i have had this intermittent misfire, it only happens once the engine has reached normal running temp.
i have gone through and replaced the DFI all 3 coil packs, all sensors, intake manifold gasket and all the other main seals as well as the ECU. but yet it still persists to cough and misfire, it starts and runs like a dream on a cold start until it warms up and apart from being a little lacking in power but that's possibly due to the exhaust being to large.....
i get no error codes on the computer when i run a diagnostic and all plugs are burnt correctly, and i have also tried changing leads and plugs which also had no affect on the "cough". i have also run a compression test to see if i had a dicky valve but all 6 cylinders where sitting around the 165-175psi mark which last time i knew is good and means all valves are working correctly. and it only does it on idle or when iam sitting at the lights, under acceleration it seems fine and it dont cough at all. only when in park or in gear sitting at lights.
any ideas on what else to try would be appreciated as this is really starting to irritate me pretty badly lol.

Edit, read it wrong.
I edited my post cause I misread your post. Nevermind.
surely someone has to have some ideas on what could be causing it....
Basically you've pretty well listed as being replaced all the parts people would suggest you look at.
Did you use new or 2nd hand parts?
do crank angle sensors do this if there on there way out? was just thinking cause you said its ok on cold start up... i dont really know just thought id start some more dialogue on this problem for you...
dont sweat the petty... pet the sweaty...
Not in my experience. I've had one car stall (and it only did it once) due to the CAS out of the 4 I've replaced in my cars. Never had one miss. They generally just don't start when hot, sometimes all together.
Not saying it couldn't do it though, and if everything else is good it's a cheap and relatively easy thing to change.
i haven't done the CAS as i didn't think it was a problem, this cough it seems to have is weird to say the least, only when the car has warmed up, but correct me if iam wrong when the CAS is playing up it should prevent the car from starting up once its warm, where as mine don't have that problem, it has always started without a hassle, hot or cold... it just coughs and misfires when its warm.
and i used all new sensors and parts with the stuff i have replaced.
after the car is warmed up, maybe should try the cold water trick on the cas just for shits and giggles and see if it misses on idol after that... you never know... youve pretty much replaced everything else.... its just one more thing you can eliminate...

injectors firing properly? if not take them out and clean them.
i will try that tomorrow morning when i get the chance and see if it makes any difference in its cough.
and as for the injectors those where on the replaced list as well with brand new parts, and are still looking very clean since i looked just the other day when i did my intake manifold gasket.
and iam pretty sure the firing order is correct, i have changed it around while the car was running to see if it makes any difference in the idle and cough and it makes no difference minus a slight delay when rev'ing the engine....
ok so putting cool water on the CAS didnt change anything or show any signs of makeing a difference with the cough.....
Didn't think it would. Sorry mate, without actually having a look at the car I can't really help you. Hopefully someone else can.
yea i didn't think it would have any affect as well, but i had to at least try it just to be sure.... and thanks for your help anyway mate, hopefully someone has an idea as to where the problem could be, could just say Fu*k it and put another motor in lol.... solve the problem completely lol
