Today I pressed my button, there was a click and the button disappeared with the handbrake still on. I tried to push it down but the shaft had jammed up the works further down. So spent half an hour trying to pull it back up and have the whole centre console out so can sorta see things. The best I could do was pull it up as much as I could then kick the handbrake down as much as I could, light is still on with slight drag on the brakes but it was getting dark, I had a tandem trailer with racecar on and needed to get home.
Tomorrow I'm racing and I have no idea why the #### it picked now but I HAVE to drive this cause we sold the spare ute and the main ute is broken. I probably smoked the park brakes on the way home which is about 20km open roads but I can fix that but what in the hell is going on with the handbrake handle? I am too afraid to use it as an emergency brake in case it locks on so it's good for nothing at all.
Should I go to the yard and get a new one or is this easily fixed? This is a liability and a half, from what I can see there is a hooked end on the centre shaft and that operates the bit for the ratchet lock, I'd assume mine is magic and has managed to come out of where it is meant to be. It was working fine then BAM I didn't even press hard or anything, the button I made was the same dimensions as the rubber broken one, perhaps even a bit longer so hit the stops sooner, stupid thing
undo the cable at the too nuts bak it right off then you will have no hand brake at all so you can get there
Beat the handbrake to hell enough that it stayed down and got through the weekend alright, fixed it today. The shaft was going past where is was meant to and the spring on the ratchet had come out but not sure if that is related but I welded a stop onto the shaft at the perfect height by depressing the shaft out of the car on the bench as much as I dared then spraying dye through the stop points on the main handle cause there were slight openings. Pulled it out and looked at the mark and that was where I welded on the stop. Works mint again although it can't be disassembled in a snap like it used to if at all but it was already assembled with stamped heads rather than bolts so it was a non service item anyway. So I can enjoy my polished alloy button again
While I'm here if you enjoy rally here is a vid from the weekend with some of the better stuff filmed since I made it handbrake and all. I'm in the flouro green honda with the split view of the inside/outside.
