Hello, my stock VP has a Stock thermo fan that is not working, i have tried a hard wire and they DO power up and work, ive changed relays also no go, they wont come on when it reaches temp? Any one no if u get like a temp switch fault( if there is one )
Silly to make a new thread about this particular problem; as I posted up this exact problem not long ago.
Nonetheless; my symptoms are identical to yours. Lets rub our noggins together and solve this problem!
(Me thinks the culprit in my situation is the ECU. It was working fine before Mechanic X changed it.)
Good luck OP! I hope you find a solution that works.
i know the thermo fan comes on when you check for errors so see if it comes on then?
Check coolant temp sensor
Check for power & earth at the cooling fan relay socket.
There should be a signal from the ECM telling it to turn on when the temp gets to a certain level.
If this signal is missing then its the ecu. Check the coolant temp sensor first if this is faulty the fan wont turn on
Im goin with ECU, got a mate with another VN/P to try his.
I got a wreckers special ECU, wouldnt turn on the fan one hit the temp, turn car off n on n she worked.
Went n got a refurb from Reppinco
Ecu..........
Oh i didnt realise sorry guys, im still new at search ill get it and stop anoying use soon lol, ok so i will try the ECU soon do i need a matched ECU or can it be calais, berlina ect i have just a boring as commy'dore! Also is the Idle speed control related coz now thats maken me stall all the time at the lightsFML!!! if not ill just buy a new one
I would check the coolant temp sensor before replacing the ECU. all you need is a mult-meter that can reads ohms.
Check it against some specs.
Then if coolant temp sensor checks out then move to the ecu.
coolant temp would be a some place for op to start, but in my case, it was working one minute, car died due to crank sensor failure, ecu Had to be replaced because mechanic x shorted it out somehow and now there is no power running through the fuse box fan terminal.
There's a lot of info. useful to diagnosing cooling fan operation in the "How To" on switching VN-VP (and others) cooling fan manually by immortality, including temp. sensor specs.
ok sweet as ill have a look
