hey guys,
just a few questions bout converting my SS to a manual.
i know theirs allot of work in it to convert it but I'm after an opinion on weather its better to go a 5 spd or get a 6spd to suit but the prob I"m having is I'm not sure how much i have to change to get a 6 spd into it.
Ive rung around a few places and they have said theirs a fair bit of work to do to fit a 6spd into them, was just wondering what needs to be done. any help on this would be great. cheers...
Well, 5 speed conversions are easy as pie, VN V8 infact the easiest of all 2nd gens! Find the manual conversion thread in the how to, for V6 but you get the idea on parts. Or check my 355 thread in my sig, i converted it to a 5 speed.
As for the 6 speed, not only is it a pain to fit, but alot more expensive. VS GTSR's had them, but good luck finding one, and if you do cheap! Next option is out of a LS1, then the bellhousing has to be moddified (angle grinder!) to fit the start exhaust etc (oposite side started 304/ls1) You might, dont quote me also need a adapter plate to bolt it up to a 304 block. Then there's the electrical, speed signal is different, need reverse lock out signal etc.
Check MalWood, they sell conversions at some steep $$$.
All in all, anless you need the bigger box I wouldnt do it. Im happy with my 5 speed in the 355. For now....
