Default 1.5mm plug gaps for 5L motor

I wanna play with some big plug gaps but instead of widening the plugs I already have I want to use some plugs that are already made with 1.5mm gaps. I was looking at the V6 ones and they looked the same as the V8 ones - is there any difference between them apart from the gaps?

Getting enough punch for the big gaps is not an issue.

my 5L had 1.5mm gaps and it didnt run well over 3500 RPM.. Ive done some experimenting and think 1.14mm runs well.. But would love to hear your results. Dont stuff round to much just open up the gaps and get it done.. It only takes about 10mins to get them out 10mins to gap them all and ten mins to put them all back in.

The stock ignition is pretty tragic IMHO. That's more than likely the reason for lousy results when you get up in revs.
Currently I am using an 7 amp ICE module but I can mod it internally to anything I like.
Over the years with other cars I have run gaps as big as 100 thou (2.5mm) but that is too big because under compression the spark runs down the side of the insulator instead of across the gap. 80 thou is not bad but I will settle for 60 thou (1.5mm) because of the ergonomically placed distributor and I don't want it flashing over and have to replace the dist cap or rotor.

Big gaps with long duration sparks are great for a naturally aspirated engine.

If you want a big gap, 2.7mm, you can get Brisk LGS, I use them on both our L67's and they work an absolute treat. At 15 PSI there is no spark blow out using the standard Holden DIS with the L67 coil packs.

Downside they are a little more expensive than Iridium's.

They sound like good results. They say a smooth engine is an efficient engine. I experimented a bit with plugs after finding the my VP SS had 1.5mm gapped plugs in it from when I bought it and found 1mm lost low down power, in the end I settled on 1.14 as being my sweet spot :-) Although I wouldnt mind trying 1.25, I currently have been trialing bosch super 4s but Ive yet to decide on there results I may have to go back to my NGKs at 1.14 to determine.

I think its great when people like us go and trial things and post their results to save others time . Cheers man.
