i take it your talking about the tierod end?
2 hammers hold 1 on the side of the steering arm and hit the oppersite site of the arm, the shock should dislog the tapered fit. I usally use a small sledge and an engineers hammer. give it a good hit

didnt realize there was 2 threads on this.... pretty much any variation of 2 hammers smashing the hell out of the ball joint should dislodge it lol.... i just hit the joint with 2 hammers at the same time on either side and that does the trick.... yours should work too boozer but id be apprehensive about banging on something that im not replacing... but it should be fine as long as you dont get too rough with it....

I usually just give a liberal spray with wd40 or similar, leave it for a bit, then hit the steering arm with a FBH.

That said, I haven't done it on a Commodore, but the principle is the same.

So much easier to buy a tool. Got mine for $20 at Repco, the mechpro ones are sweet. Set it up and turn the bolt with a socket and she pops open

The pulling tools work okay, I have had them fail on older cars, the bolt just chews into the body of the puller when you try and wind it in. Failing belting the crap out of it with a hammer, just warm it up a little with an oxy, or even a gas torch, and should come off with a bit of a whack.
