What's the best?
pure titanuim
dont sweat the petty... pet the sweaty...
mixed with some 24k gold, will never rust then lol nah go pacemaker, apparently they have a great reputaion with commodores, otherwise have some custom made to suit your car
For the old V6, get whatever's cheapest. eBay a second hand set with a y-piece if you can. No point spending out of your ears, the benefits of a $1000 system over a $500 system are limited compared to money spent elsewhere.

Do what morton said, I brought mine on ebay for 150![]()
i hear plastic extractors work well.
I can send you a set of Wildcats for $385 shipped, or Tiger for $330 shipped. Both include the Y pipe.
I reckon Pacemakers are the best way to go. They don't scream at ya when you're peaking at 5,000rpm either.
Pacemakers and Genies are good value on a V8, but it's really debatable whether a) it's worth the money on a V6, or b) it's worth the trouble of them being so long ^_^

its very well worth extractors on a v6. i just fitted a set of pacemaker 5009 to my VP Calais, and boy can i feel the difference in power as well as the economy of the time is spent driving it... not to mention a rather nice deeper exhaust note mm rather pleasant.
i did have a set of advanced on there, didnt make much difference in anything really, apart from a bumble when i compression brake. over all avoid wildcats as they have massive problems lineing up most times, not sure about genie althou i have heard they are pretty good. but over all pacemakers are the way to go. i picked mine up for 330 plus postage and handleing and i already swear by them.
True, I had that problem and had to trim some of the bracket thing on the side of the cross member back a little...still vibrates somewhere though, very annoying. Otherwise love my Paccies, but I don't really think they could be worth the extra money over Wildcats...maybe if you were really serious about every last kw, had a serious motor and had no budget, but really...I'd be tempted to go with something from Not_An_Abba_Fan if I was doing it again.I have had problems with Pacemaker however, especially VN-VR V6, the Y pipe can hit the cross member.
Wildcats are great for v6's I had them on my vn v6 when I was 16 before I realized a v8 was the way to go!
my old vn calais was running a set of wildcats, and i found them horrible. considering the motor iam running in my vp calais is from that series 2 vn calais. anyway, in my personal experience i found them a mongrel to line upto the heads, plus they didnt produce the note i was after where as the paceys i fitted do... and yes i do know the cross member problem and the lovely vibration it cause's i had to deal with it today, however i didnt have to modify the bracket, i just replaced the transmission mount with one that pulls it back just by a fraction and now it does not cause any vibration evan under the high RPM bands or under high torque.
fair enough mine went better with them on it, 5 months later I got an injected 5 litre lol never looked back onto the 5.7's now 6.0 litre next year cheapest power for money thats for sure.
sadly iam now under the new laws, no turbos or v8's for me :'( not yet anyway... besides given that a buick has a lumpy/crappy ilde i reckon i can use that to cover some internal mods lol
with the vibration your still getting, here is an idea that i tried that also helped me, loosen the bolts off the extractors and place something under the cat just to pull it down alittle, i used one of my spare exhaust hang mounts then just tighten the extractor bolts back up nice n snug and remove the rubber or leave it there, it stopped 98% of the vibration i was getting minus the crossmember rubbing lol which i sorted just with a different trans mount...
Yeh from memory the buicks had the bellmouth and when removed they sound lumpy and idle different, id just get a mini spool cai,tb all second hand of course and be done with it lol & do as many burnouts as you can.
Thanks heaps vamplestat, I'll give that a trywith the vibration your still getting, here is an idea that i tried that also helped me, loosen the bolts off the extractors and place something under the cat just to pull it down alittle, i used one of my spare exhaust hang mounts then just tighten the extractor bolts back up nice n snug and remove the rubber or leave it there, it stopped 98% of the vibration i was getting minus the crossmember rubbing lol which i sorted just with a different trans mount...![]()
i put the belmouth back into mine... made no difference in throttle response apart from haveing a leaning affect on the 2 rear cylinders lol.. and i dont wanna rip skids lol... already on thin ice with my license...
So come to a conclusion?
