hi all
just wondering something
my vn calais (v6) is going thru the fuel quite a bit or maybe is just the way it is i dunno
but when i filled it up it said 1100 kms till empty which sounds crazy and it says it averages around 4.9 litrs per 110 kms which i think sounds crazy 2
does anione have any thoughts on this a have replaced the oxy sensor i have actually serviced the car new spark plugs, leads, motor oil, fuel filter, air filter and have also put a bottle of injector cleaner thru the fuel system
before i replaced the oxy sensor i filled the car up.
in the morning i travelled to shepparton from where i was which was bout 52 kms and then back again (52 kms). the next morning i travelled there again but before i left to go back home I checked my fuel amount and from 63 litrs full i had already used 11 litrs of fuel . when i serviced it an replaced the oxy sensor it was better but still us es lotsa fuel.
now i am not sure if this is normal for a vn calais or not.
Its puzzling me atm
any help please
cheers![]()
From what you've said your using around 11 litres per 100km... that sounds pretty good to me.
Those wack instantaneous readings on the trip computer are most likely the result of poor calibration. There's a guide somewhere on this forum to recalibrate the trip computer.
As for your real fuel consumption, I'd say that isn't TOO bad at all.
I think you'll find that apart from pumping your tyres up to 40psi, the only real improvements you'll see are:
1) remove all excess weight from the car (tools and other rubbish in the boot)
2) the way you drive
If you can master efficient driving techniques, you can get good economy out of anything.
I used to average 8.9 litres per hundred or better on the highway in my V8 VQ Statesman, and last week I averaged 11.2 litres per hundred in my carby 202 HQ land yacht on the way to Sydney. Anything is possible if you try hard enough ^_^
Basic tips? Don't try to keep a consistent speed over changes in road level. Be more concerned about consistent engine load. Allow the car to shake off speed on up-hill stretches, and use gravity to your advantage down hills to gain speed without going nuts. Your most efficient speed is going to be around 80kph though, so you have to decide between economy and pace
Coast for as long as possible before reaching a point you know you have to stop at, etc etc.

does ani one know the right calibration numbers cos i woulndt have a clue
cheers
625 I think is standard, but you have to do some trial-and-error, or take down some fuel consumption statistics from your car to find the most accurate calibration for your particular car.
If yours have been changed, try resetting them all to 625 and going from there.
You don't have aftermarket diff gears in there by any chance do you? That would be the most immediate way I would think of you getting fudged readings.
