    Default Lsd

    Hey fellas,

Looking to put a LSD in my vp, it's solid rear, wondering if and other models will fit straight in, or if anyone knows the best way to go about getting one? I only want to change the centre if I can, this question has probably been asked multiple time before, but I coulnt find anything on it. Also if anyone's knows prices, that would be awesome

Maybe an SS, or an HSV one would fit straight in? Maybe a Calais one? Or any VN-VP that came out with a V8?

as far as i am aware all the VN-VS live axles are all the same, the same diff is also used in E series falcons and the R31 skyline.

im not sure about interchangeability of centres between live axle and IRS diffs.

Few examples of which vehicles had the BW78 diff. Any LSD out of these would work.
Ford Falcon - XD to AU (6 cyl or V8)
Holden Commodore - VL to VT (6 cyl, V6 or V8)
Chrysler Valiant - Late models* Mitsubishi Sigma (2.0 or 2.6) .

A friend of mine had an LSD from a AU Ford Wagon in his VN. That's what I would look at doing as being a wagon you know it's unlikely to be thrashed not to mention leaf springs.

I'm taking the spooled centre and gears out of an '89 Skyline and putting them in my VN. So long as the car is running a Borgie 78 with 28 spline axles, you're set The only differences between manufacturers would have been the axles and mounts.

Note: early IRS (VQ, VP) will have a compatible centre too. Done it, it works fine and no extra shims were required. (took a VQ IRS centre and put it in a VS live axle diff)

Later IRS (VS onwards, possibly VR) have a different internal offset, will require shimming, and is a dodgy fit Can work, will break.
