Ok where will I start, I have a VQ SV 200 that is having a few problems at the moment.
It is a 5lt engine. I am having trouble with it keeping charge. I have replaced the alternator to a brand new high voltage one and a brand new battery. I keep it on charge and it will start. as soon as it goes a night with out charging it goes flat. I have taken it to the autoelec and he thought it was one of the central locking motor in the back door as it was siezed but otherwise it wasnt draining power?
Next issue is once it warms up it starts to run really rough and the idle will go up and down til eventually it will stall. I have replaced the starter motor to a quick spin stater motor as it wouldnt start again with a normal stater motor as the standard one was getting hot. I am also running a gilmore drive on it and not sure if this could be effecting it. Any help would be really appreciated as it is driving me insane and costing a fortune hahaha.
Sorry just read that back the autoelec replaced all the central locking motors as the were all quite shit but still have the problem.
if the alternator and battery are new you must be getting current draw from some where hook up a multimeter to the battery when there cars off. i know theres a setting that can test for current draw on the multi meter not sure which one it is but some one should know or just google testing for current draw.
Sorry I wrote this half asleep I think Its a VQ stateman sv 200. Yeah apparently the autoelec had tried doing that to the battery but it was drawing anything from it.
A new battery is draining overnight and an auto electrician can't find the problem, find a new auto electrician.
i had the battery problem a while back,i checked over everything, auto elctrician couldnt find it,was killing me,turns out it was 2 amps that were using the power while the car was off,the guys that installed my system had the power wire setup wrong,if you have a sound system check that, also and lights or blinking L.E.Ds can lead to a drain, not that fast though, apart from that id ask another auto electrician to go over everything.
Check the boot doesn't stay on while the boot is closed. The odd VN-VP-VQ has a habit of doing this.
Ok so it has gone to another Autoelec and he cant find the problem either. Bloody car. As for the idling problem have changed a few sensors and still doing the same thing. I am thinking of disconnecting the second fuel pump and seeing if that fixes the problem. Anyone have any thoughts?
Cars are a real pain when they do things like this, I had a lemon of a VL that would cut out randomly and replaced 1/2 the engine bay parts and it still did it (must have been the other 1/2 of the parts lol), Hope you can sort it mate I feel your pain on this one.
Yeap they are a pain in the arse. I feel like sending the thing to Sims metal at the moment. I am going out there today armed with a multimeter and a can of petrol if i dont find the problem I will just set fire to the bastard haha.
