Default Pedders, Monroes, Ultimas or what else you suggest....??

    Hi guys,
only a newbie but hope you can help
I have a stock standard '92 VP V6 Calais which needs new front struts, and i'm thinking of air shocks for the rear, (because being on dual fuel the rear end is feeling the weight a bit when full of fuel!) and possibly new springs also (front and rear), so i'm wondering which ones you reckon are better??
I haven't got a 'hell of a lot' to spend so am looking for a cheaper (but still not too nasty option) to do the above.
So what do people think is the best ones to go with out of Pedders, Monroes and Ultimas, unless anyone can point me in a better direction and know a good suspension place to go in Brisbane. pref southside.

    Cheers, uluru.

    Thanks for your reply mate,
am just trying to sus out if one is worse or better than the other out of those brands.
I would love to have Konis all round, but unfortunately the wallet doesn't agree!
Have heard good and bad about Monroes, and that Ultimas won't last long, but they do give a 3yr warranty and are less $$$.
Pedders have been around since year dot, and a little more exxy, but ARE they that much better than the others.
Might just toss a coin up in the air and see what it lands on, i think!!?

    Cheers mate, keep ya posted!!!

Hi mate, am in a similar position to you. Needed new springs, shocks and struts and not overly keen to pay through the nose for it. I went with blupac (more than likely unheard of) for shocks and struts. $313 for 2 fronts, 2 rears and bumpstops with 3 year 100xxxkm warranty. They do look suspiciously similar to Ultima so would not be surprised if the same. Am combining them with king springs that cost $260 for all four.

All up around $600 including new bearings. I am not expecting the smoothest ride but can't complain for the price paid! If they explode they will get sent back. The prices above are for a vr v8 ute so prices may differ a bit! Suspension should arrive this week so will keep you posted.

Have done a little bit of research on Blu pac with no major complaints. They appear to be used more on the 4wd's etc. Someone may have more info for us?

Ultima units are imported and often rebadged under just about every brand you know. They are very good vaue at the pricepoint, but certainly more money buys more

Went and saw a couple of suspension/tyre places today and got some quotes.
Can get 4 King springs, 2x Boags front struts, 2x Boags rear shockies, all done inc wheel alignment for just under $1000.
Another guy was $1200 inc w/align plus 2x coil covers/braces, another was $1200 for the same Boags set-up as the first guy.
One mob was $700+ for 2x fronts struts and 2x front springs fitted! ie $300+$180+fitting,stuff that!!!
Could go the cheaper Ultimas/Monroes option, but everyone said they would be too hard for the 'ol VP and shake it apart!
So is a touch more than i wanted to pay ($600 would have been good), but reckon it may be worth going for the $1000 one.
    They good prices you think???
Am gonna go 30mm lower on the front, bcoz it sits up like a 4wd at the mo, and heavier duty springs on the rear to take the weight of the 2 fuel tanks. (one being the LPG, weighs 120kilos empty!).

    Cheers for your replys.

Kind of like choosing which arm to chop off with a rusty blunt axe with those alternatives. Check out site sponsor GSL Rallysport for a price on a good set of KYB's which are good quality at a reasonable price.

i think pedders aren't great, can't go wrong with set of monroes, hd king springs and polyairbags. you'll get adjustable ride height to a point on the back and the ride will be okay. air shocks aren't worth the money. boge shocks and kybs are good also. its all what you can get for a good price
