Okay, so the car is not gushing oil or anything, but it does have the odd drip hanging here and there. Oil leaks are a roadworthy issue of course, and as time goes on these tiny leaks only get worse, not better. Now I got to thinking, how would it be if you had a drippy old engine and trans, that you fabricated a proper, decent, workmanlike, made-for-the-job full-length drip tray to to a proper job of catching any drips before they met the road? Would it then pass a roadworthy seeing there is no oil leaks in sight, or for that matter likely to drip on the ground?
Is the issue to you oil on the road or your vehicle loosing fluid? Is it worth fixing your car?
You can clean the engine before a roadworthy and get passed. A full length drip tray would be expensive, change ride height, be difficult to maintain, reduce the chance to locate a leak, possibly create a combustion hazard.
I doubt it complies with any ADR. How would you contain the fluids?
ive got slight drips from the rear main and the steering rack. buy a jug of degreaser and a 1 litre pump sprayer from bunnings. jack the car up and give it a good degrease and pressure wash it just before you go for the roady. thats what i did and passed no probs... but thats for really slow drips not gushers...
dont sweat the petty... pet the sweaty...
I doubt a drip tray would pass due to the fact it is not sealed and the fact that there would be no facility for overflow.
I like your way of thinking tho to avoid regular servicing and maintenance, just like my old man lol.
And then when your driptray is full, you could build a second driptray to catch the drips out of the first driptray
