before you begin dismantling everything, make sure that you have all the right tools, sockets, ratchet spanner is handy for the manifold-to-head bolts/nuts.

and get a can of loctite 'freeze' anti-seize.

    and a beer.

    and peanuts.

    and a lounge chair.

and maybe 4+ hours if this is the first time for you.

    goodluck

What type of extractors are you putting in there?

Upload some pics, then we can tell you just how much of a pain it's going to be getting them in there ^_^

Dropping the steering rack and starter motor is a big help; arguably necessary. It's also nice to have an extensive tool kit with a few different options for approaching various bolts.

eg: 13mm spanner, 13mm offset spanner, 13mm ratchet spanner, 1/2" and 1/4" drive 13mm sockets

Not essential, but really advisable because some bolts and nuts are just a downright pain for no good reason

But all extractors are different lengths, so up some pics and I'll give you the rundown!

Nah dont worry about sanding them and painting them mate, Even high temp paint will burn off after a week. If you have your heart set on coating them, get them HPC coated - but thats expensive.

Extractors are a pretty easy swap over, the passengers side one should just slot straight in. The drivers one will need the steering rack dropped to get it in, which is pretty easy, just 2 19mm bolts and a bolt thru the intermediate shaft to the column. Make sure you do the steering rack bolts up tight again, even mark them with a paint pen after they are done if you are prone to leaving things loose.

The rest should be pretty easy. You might need to re weld or heat and bend the rest of your exhaust if it doesnt match up perfectly. If it doesnt mate up flush (the y piece and the rest of your exhaust), dont try and pull it together with bolts or you will bend the flanges and they will always leak

Not true, VHT Flameproof paints will last for bloody years. I painted my V8 extractors in VHT Flameproof cast iron and after two years and 50,000km they were still mint, barring a few oil stains. All you have to do is heat cycle them properly as indicated on the can, and the paint lasts ages.
