    Default Front suspension

Just decided to give the old vp a bit of work changing the front struts.. Never done them before.. When the sealed gas struts ask you to put oil in the strut body (30ml) i assume this is just to keep the strut from rusting in the body and normal motor oil is fine...

Also anyone changed the dust boot on the stock ball joints on the lower control arm on the front suspension. Anyone find a new boot to fit? Can find heaps of tie rod ones.. None will fit the 39mm size for the contol arm ones. All are too big/small.....and pop off..

Rather not change the ball joints.. With new grease they are fine....

Roadsafe part number RB94K is what you want. Is there a local auto parts store you can inquire at? They can possibly call their supplier and find a cross-reference on a part number for you

But yes, you can change them. I do semi-regularly, and that's the part number ^_^

And yes, the oil in the base is just to stop condensation accumulating as water and starting a nice little rusty process going on

    Hi,

Those roadsafe ones are exactly what i got from bursons... They seem to be 36mm and the Lip they hold on to on my car is 39mm and about 4-5mm deep and the bolt is about 18mm

For me the roadsafe ones just pop off...the stock ones are no more than 1cm high..maybe less like 8mm and have a hard plastic/metal ring bonded onto the bottom of the rubber..

If i cut the roadsafe ones where they were 39mm they would fit but id have no where to put the clip on and they would come off on the bottom as the joint articulated...

Well... I ended up getting rb122k boots after a little grinding with the dremel it fitted..(the grinding was on the metal ring at the bottom. 39mm my arse .. 28.9 more like it.. Enough that they wouldnt fit without some persuasion)
