Is the auto full of fluid?
If you have ample trans fluid in there, then it sounds like your torque converter disengaged from the oil pump when you removed the old engine.
In order to properly engage the torque converter, it needs to be spun back and forth while pressure is applied, and you will hear it "clunk" back into the oil pump three(?) times. However, it can just fall out without any warning if you remove the engine.
Do you remember bolting up the flexplate to the torque converter (three short bolts) when you threw the new motor in? You should've had to pull the torque converter forward to meet the flexplate. If your flexplate was already near to or touching the torque converter when you got under there, odds are it never engaged the oil pump.
You can only hope you havn't completely stuffed it by forcing the engine onto it
IF this is your problem, the easiest solution is a new gearbox.
