OK iam after some reviews for some parts that mace offer before i make my final decision weather i get these items or not.
now iam looking at the 1.9.1 high ratio lifters, anyone had any experience with these and care to share what they felt after you fitted them and weather they responded as advertised?
also looking at the 70mm throttle body as well, anyone had any experience with these and care to share what they felt after you fitted them and weather they responded as advertised?
and also looking at the mace VP v6 memcal, anyone had any experience with these and care to share what they felt after you fitted them and weather they responded as advertised?
please note that all this is for a v6 auto VP Calais, i already got extractors and exhaust etc but i wanna hear from people that have had or used these items and what your thoughts are and weather they are worth it.
Mate I only had a full exhaust on my VR V6, and have fitted a heap of MACE gear; CAI, 1.9:1 rockers, 70mm tb, and an 82 degree thermostat. I was after a memcal from them but they didn't have any at the time.
All the gear worked just as Steve said. I've never had any problems other than slightly altered shift points from the bigger throttle body. Leaving the car in PWR mode essentially fixes this though.
I noticed reasonable gains, especially in the top end and would recommend MACE. If I had another car I would be fitting all these, maybe not the tb, but at least everything else again. I think if you have the money and want to play with the six then it's worth it and good value for money. If you buy it all at once Steve might even be able to do a bit of a deal![]()
well i messaged him on here and hopefully he can fill me in abit more about the items. would the throttle body mess with my shift points given that my trans has a kickdown cable?a
Hey Flak, Does the larger throttle body make any difference to normal driving? As far as I can get my head around, it would only give a gain at WOT. Anything other than WOT the throttle is partially closed anyway so wouldn't a big throttle body just be "less open" than a smaller throttle body but essentially providing the same flow restriction?
You seem pretty happy with the mods but i'm sorta just wondering if its worthwhile for a street car
see from what i have been able to read up on, the roller lifters had good reviews all over the net. but the throttle body had BAD reviews not the mace branded one's just the 70mm tb in general as its apparently overkill and it cause's bad to high idles, some flat spots evan which is why iam asking these questions now as i wanna be sure its a good way to go in the end. and as for the mace chips i haven't found any reviews from people that have used them so its hard to make a final decision as i don't know what the overall gains other people have seen.
Sorry mate I'm not sure, better ask Steve that one. I'd guess maybe not, as it's the 4L60 not the 4L60E like mine right?well i messaged him on here and hopefully he can fill me in abit more about the items. would the throttle body mess with my shift points given that my trans has a kickdown cable?
Yeah it seems as if there is improved throttle response throughout, I would assume that is because pushing the accelerator the same distance as before now lets more air in? Definitely noticeable gains for all the combined mods at both normal driving and especially higher revs. I fitted the tb the same time as the roller rockers and new injectors, thermostat and gasket kit so it's a bit difficult to say what effect the individual parts had. Was just easier to do it all at once. I'm pretty happy with the mods yeah, and value for money they are all pretty hard to beat.Hey Flak, Does the larger throttle body make any difference to normal driving? Yeah the rockers for sure are a good mod, the tb you could probably quite happily live without. If I had a tighter budget I would have probably skipped it. I haven't really had any idle problems, and if you were to have some wouldn't it just take a little time for the computer to adjust and resolve the issue, or is that only with the electronic box?see from what i have been able to read up on, the roller lifters had good reviews all over the net. but the throttle body had BAD reviews not the mace branded one's just the 70mm tb in general as its apparently overkill and it cause's bad to high idles, some flat spots evan which is why iam asking these questions now as i wanna be sure its a good way to go in the end. and as for the mace chips i haven't found any reviews from people that have used them so its hard to make a final decision as i don't know what the overall gains other people have seen.
I haven't noticed any flat spots, but if I wanted the tb again I'd have a tune made before (I'm in the process of getting one atm). To be honest, with the memcal, unless you need it soon, I'd message Foamy and get him to make you one. His username is nicefrog on eBay, just send him a message. Be prepared to wait a good few months for one of his tunes though. I really think that's the best thing to do with the tb however, as the MACE memcals are just general whereas his will be for your car with your mods. Keep in mind you probably want to do all the performance mods before you get the tune done then leave it though.
i have been in touch with greenfoam over ebay, but he is a rather busy boy and dont seem to do them that much anymore. and isnt the vr transmission electronic controlled? given that fact the trans shift points would change, given mine has the old fashion kickback cable, iam still curious if my shiftpoints would change, althou finding reviews isnt all that easy, i been at it all afternoon lol. and iam waiting on steve to get back to me atm. cant find much on the mace memcals as well. only alot of the ecotec engines not for the buicks.
Yeah the VR trans is, so maybe you'll be right. If not you can adjust the cable I guess. I'd give it a try if you have the money lol, but wait for Steve's reply, he's usually pretty quick.
I'd almost bet there's still no Buick memcals yet, can't be sure though. I think there's someone else on the forums who tunes them, is it delcowizzid? Might be worth a try.
from what ive been told is that the original parts of the buick motor dont line up in the hole size, the motor has a 69mm opening and the new TB would be 70mm therefore there is technically a restricion going down in size, getting a 69mm apparently is optimum but its not completely proven as far as ive ben able to find but it makes sense
That's what I thought too, and I was all ready to attack the inlet manifold with a die grinder but when I trial fitted them together they fitted perfectly. The actual opening is larger than 70mm, I guess the butterfly is exactly 70mm, and the end must be 69mm as it matched.from what ive been told is that the original parts of the buick motor dont line up in the hole size, the motor has a 69mm opening and the new TB would be 70mm therefore there is technically a restricion going down in size, getting a 69mm apparently is optimum but its not completely proven as far as ive ben able to find but it makes sense
yea they will fit together, but the openings would be different wouldnt they? i mean 1mm isnt going to be noticeable to the naked eye but it could make all the difference,i actually like that idea of opening up the smaller side, but id rather get it CNC done as any imperfections you make could change it completely not to mention you may get small metal shards stuck and that will be even worse
I'm pretty picky about my car and it seemed to fit perfectly to me. 1mm, if that was even there, would make such a tiny difference that's not worth the time at all; there's no way you will notice even the slightest difference. I was also going to get mine machined properly but for $100 it's really a waste of money, and if you're picky and take your time, a die grinder would do just as good a job. Better off spending the money on fuel than unnoticeable, immeasurable gains.
good point,in the end its bigger than stock so either way its an improvement,im thinking of going all mace for my VN series 2,i should see some really big difference once i put on the TB,thermostst, rockers, memcal,CAI,Harmonic Balancer. then il put on some supporting mods like larger fuel pump or duel, better fuel lines, injectors,LSD,finish building the custom exhaust, port and polish the head, then find a good cam to suit it allcan anywone say skid beast lol
mines not gonna be for skiddys lol, i just want my buick to have abit more poke and response when i put my foot down lol....
now steve said that they can supply a tune for all the items i have listed so that was very helpful thank god, didnt want a tune that wasnt going to factor in all the mods i have fitted lol. now i just gotta work out the throttle body as thats the only thing thats still bothering me, especially with all the ideas of late or early changes as i have no clue how to adjust the kickdown cable lol....
Sounds good mate, though I rekon dual fuel isn't that great, and bigger injectors are probably a waste until the cam goes in. Sounds good though, do you have a build thread?good point,in the end its bigger than stock so either way its an improvement,im thinking of going all mace for my VN series 2,i should see some really big difference once i put on the TB,thermostst, rockers, memcal,CAI,Harmonic Balancer. then il put on some supporting mods like larger fuel pump or duel, better fuel lines, injectors,LSD,finish building the custom exhaust, port and polish the head, then find a good cam to suit it all can anywone say skid beast lol
Sounds good, ah ok well that's awesome then, do it lol. Did you ask Steve about the tb?mines not gonna be for skiddys lol, i just want my buick to have abit more poke and response when i put my foot down lol....

yea i sent a replay back to him, so now iam just playing the waiting game again lol.... iam just amazed about how much negative feedback 70mm throttle bodys actually have which is wierd given that the better the airflow the better your engine should work according to the theory behind it all lol.... i have wanted one for awhile now but after reading what i have iam somewhat hesitant you could say lol. better to know the facts before jumping in and drowning
True, but really even if your shift points are a bit off I doubt it would be too bad, wasn't for me, and you could probably take it somewhere to get adjusted. But I'm really not sure with that trans. Still, exciting to get a heap of new shiny thingsI especially liked the heavy duty pushrods that came with the rockers, they were sexy lol
yea i cant say iam not excited, would be nice to put my foot down and feel abit more power then what the old buick already produces. truth be told i wanna build it up slowly without my mate knowing as he own a vx clubby and he thinks its gods gift to cars and that it cant be beaten, i can beat him off the line as my vp launches nicely but he just flys down the road lol. where i want my old v6 to eventually murder his ls1 lol... gonna take time thou
Time, and forced induction =P
yea, that will be the key.... but i have 2 odd years before i can play with all that stuff... stupid new laws suck ass and take my fun away lol... but these few mods should be a good start, with plans of manual conversion later with LSD etc...
surprised no1 has popped up and said why bother with a v6 just get a v8 lol
smartass lol
why arent dual fuel pumps any good? i thought cams should be bought after mods because you buy a cam to suit? lol im really noob with alot of performance stuff, this is the first car ive actually done any proper performance mods to,so any help and ideas is great, whats a build thread? u mean like one of these just with everything im doing and have done so far?
yea thats what i want too,im over people thinking that these old V6s havent got anything, though mine is gona have a purpose as a N/A tuned skid beast, gona enter it into summernats if its ready by then,im not betting on any form of victory but it would be great to see it hold up against 8s on the pad![]()
these motors have alot of low end torque, they were built in the image of muscle cars but for the family, thats why when you put ur foot down around a corner these things destroy tyres lol they are built for frying tyres
