This question is for my VP but it could apply to any commodore, or any sort of car for that matter.
I have an un-registered VP in my driveway and it has a cracked windscreen and my main fear is that heavy rain or hail will smash the windscreen before I get it fixed. What would be the best way to protect it whilst the car isn't being used? I was leaning towards putting tarp on the windscreen. Any ideas?
Cheers.
i would put a masking taped cross on your windscreen,it should hold it a little more and put the tarp on
How bad is the crack? It takes a LOT to break safety glass.

you dont have to worry about the windscreen shattering like side glass would. its 2 sheets of glass with a plastic laminate sandwiched in between. automotive safety standards are already ahead of you... 1 more crack or 100 isnt going to make a difference. just replace it when your get to it...
edit: by windscreen i assume you mean the front one and not the back window...

I'm a faking glazier u wanna get some duct tape x it across the crack or get laminated sheets like u put on books nd chuck tharp it's only laminated all u have To worry bout is the other windows they are heat treated laminate glass that will smash to little pices if hit hard enough
To protect my windshield (and panels) from stuff like hail, I just get some cardboard boxes and put them on and tie them down.

on my dads ute we used cardboard (as acarmody) said and tied a trap over the top did the trick for the windows, the panels on the other hand didnt come off so good though ....
i pulled mine out by myself and did some rust fixes (plus it had some big stone chips). by the time i got it out it had about 40 cracks in it and its still leaning against the brick in one piece.... i wouldn't worry about putting anything over it, your just wasting your time... ive got a video of my kid hitting one with a sledge hammer too, still stays in one piece...

Do you know what caused it? I've seen cars in the past where the front is out of alignment (due to a major impact) leading to stress on the windscreen which then cracks. The solution was to shave part of the windscreen off to reduce the pressure. I'm sure that it's not legal to do that, but it is something that can't be seen so therefore provides a dodgy solution.
If you know there is a major hail storm coming, get it insured for heaps more than it's worth and then buy a Walkinshaw with the change.
Screw masking tape, use duct tape!
