Hey guys i was wondering if anyone can tell me where the IAC is located on the VN V6? didnt even know what this was til now and i think it might be an idea to clean it since my car is showing all the symptoms of a clogged and dirty one,so what is the best way to go about cleaning this or is it better to replace it? where is the best place to get a new one if thats the case, should i go original holden or would generic do? if i should clean it can anyone tell me how? pictures if possible would be great
It's located on the throttle body, it's black and about 25mm in diameter with an electrical plug attached to it, 4 wires I think. It comes off with TORX screws just clean out the throttle body where it goes and use a bit of WD40 on the IAC. I was told never immerse them in carby cleaner as it can damage them.
By the way there's no series 1 or 2 in a VN.
so pump some throttle body cleaner in the hole off the TB?
you sure, everytime i go to places to order parts they ask if its series 1 or 2,im sure there is coz the radiator setup is different in the S2,i thought it was 90-91 thats S2.
yeah take the IAC off and see how dirty the throttle body is, you might need to remove the whole thing and give it a clean but remove the electrical parts if your going to use a lot of carby cleaner. The IAC might also be dirty but just spray some WD40 into it and see what cmes out.
If it still has the original IAC in it you can buy a new one if you want, they are improved from the VN ones.
With the VN there was no official series, it's just a term used to describe the change from rear to front thermostat engines. In fact there were a lot of running changes to the engine apart from this, mainly internal for example the rocker gear was changed. For example my 10/90 had the thermostat at the back. It must have been one of the last ones with this type of engine. It also had the later wiper arms and just a surge tank no overflow bottle from factory on the passengers side.
Let us know how cleaning the TB and IAC goes and if not you can try looking at a few other things.
