    Question VN memcal into VP

Hey everyone, kinda new to modifying commodores. I have a VP wagon and memcal was stuffed, just wondering if a VN memcal will work without causing any damage, as i have a VN S memcal sitting in a drawer in the shed.
Also, will a VN Stage 3 instrument cluster go in and work without mods? Thanx everyone

What makes you think the memcal is stuffed. VN and VP same memcal as far as I know.

VN and VP are a little different - a VP memcal in a VN makes it drink petrol like no tomorrow. I'm guessing that the car would run I think.

L3 cluster gauges will work but the trip computer needs a patch loom and a L2 Berlina SB with trip function on it. A normal L3 SB will smoke if you plug it in as wiper part is wired differently.

thanks 88GreenVN, lucky you told me about the SB because i was going to get an L3 one. Any idea where i can get the patch loom from? Oh and i was asking about putting a VN memcal into a VP, not the opposite.

Yep I know it was the opposite - just thought I could add that info. I think the cam was a little different in the VP and they toned down the touque as the oldies complained about wheel spin in the VN at low revs. So the VP got a softer touque curve. A VN memcal may just be OK - I'm sure there is plenty on VN's and VP's running around wit hthe wrong memcal in it LOL.

As for patch looms I do make them for VN/VP/VR/VS cars. Probably the VP is the most complex because of the L3 BCM has some of the functions that the standard switchblock have. I graft a VN L3 guts into a VP Exec SB and run the PCB out of the VP SB under the dash and use the rear demister and interior light delay functions on that PCB. The patch loom is the 4th plug and all the wires needed to get the trip computer working. PM me if you want some pricing.

vn/p/r dont run a mass airflow meter. they run a map sensor, which are all the same from memory

yes you're correct hakhawk, only ecotec's run a MAF sensor
88GreenVN, if the VP was toned down, i should get better acceleration with the VN memcal? i wouldnt complain if i had wheelspin, i complain because i lack it

I thought that was in the VN series 1 engine, so in the series 2, as well as VP & VR they had a different cam, bell mouth and possibly a new tune..

Yes the VN had the smokin torque and they toned it down for S2 motors = the VP motor so if you fit a S1 VN memcal into a VP......

yeah just had look around on the net, there were minor differences between the series 1 and 2 cams, but the biggest difference was the tune as they tried to smooth the torque curve to make the oldies happy. I might try the memcal on the weekend and see how it goes. Hopefully doesnt do any damage.........
