Hi Guys
I have a Series 1 VN V6 that I can't get to start.
I put in 2.5inch catback exhaust system. Whilst doing this I realised that the bolts on either side of the cat converter were too rusted to get off so I ended up angle grinding them off. Once I got the new exhaust on I saw how rooted the cat converter was so decided to replaced this too. Since I was already doing these 2 I have also put on new Genie extractors.
All of this is now on, plus I took the throttle body off & gave that a good clean as it was dirty as.
Since I have got all of this on I now can't get it to start. It sounds like it is turning over fine but just won't kick over to start. Also, the fuel pump is making a noise that it didn't before so I am not sure if this is the problem.(I only konw a little bit about cars, picking up my knowledge as I go).
Any help would be much appreciated as the car is at a house that the lease has run out on so I kinda need to get it going ASAP...
how much fuels in it? if the fuel pump sounds different it could be too low for it to be pick it up, they need like 20 litres min if you run them out of fuel, as I found out the hard way lol so could be similar if its been sittin for a wile..
check that both of the sensors are plugged in at the back of the throttle body and all the vaccume hoses are too..
if that's all you've changed and everything else is still in the same spot I'm not sure.. maybe check all fuses in engine bay and in car could be a problem there too.
That is what I orignially thought.
I put in 20L the other day as that was what I thought was the problem but it still wouldn't kick over. It had been sitting with little to no fuel in it for about a year.
Have made sure all sensors & vacuum hoses are in throttle body. Will check fuses tonight.
Any other ideas?
hmm.. first id check that you have spark then maybe take the fuel hose off at the pump and see how much fuel it is throwing out, if it's knackered you'll be able to tell it should have heaps of pressure behind it... if it is getting heaps of fuel then maybe check if your injectors have fuel getting to them. see how that goes
Check fuel filter and get ur pump tested and clean out ur tank maybe...
I think it may be fuel filter mate
Cheers guys.
Taken me a while to to able to have a good go at it as had to move it...
Changed fuel filter even though it had fairly new one on it as had 18month old petrol in it that ran to almost nothing so thought some crap may have got into it. No difference.
Took the fuel rail off, was expecting very little fuel there. Got it off & it pissed fuel everywhere. 3 of the injectors though were completely dry & had no fuel dripping out of them.
Am I right to assume that this would be the issue?(pretty much knowing the answer).
I also got a VS from a mate today that was going to go to the wreckers, are the injectors are interchangeable?
