on the vehicle the inside can be cleaned with brake cleaner ($12)(Liqui-moly) or CARBIE+ MANIFOLD CLEANER ( Liqui-moly) just take on the intake pipe with a starscrewdriver .....this is the slack but effective way... or your can remove the manifold and use a car wash sponge and mineral turpintine($8.50L) or petrol ($1.50 L) then wipe it out a few times till acceptably clean then use methylated spirits to remove the min-turp residue then let is dry for a few moments and bolt back on

ps. try to leave the accel. cables in its usuall position as much as possible but be e ven more careful when puting back on it is quite easy to get springs around the wrong way and such.

If you want to clean the inside, you can use ThreeBond Engine Conditioner. It's designed to be injected into the throttle body while the motor is running, and soak into the carbon inside the plenum, dissolving it and allowing it all to be blown out via the exhaust.

Brake Cleaner and Carby Cleaner won't do the trick on hardened-up carbon deposits, it'll just clean the dust off your carbon

If you want to clean the outside, use elbow grease

morton, that seems the more practical approach.. but what about the catalyct converter, will this gummy it up? if not i know what's going in my next tank of fuel.

Naaaah the ThreeBond stuff is designed to be safe for Oxy sensors and Cats. It's not put in the fuel tank, you literally spray it through any vacuum or emissions hose into your manifold while the car is running
