    Default Servicing Vn v6

So I'm going to service my car. Just wondering what grade of oil to use . What brands you guys recommend for spark plugs, oil, filters etc.

    Cheers

this depends, are you looking to go top quality,or is this just for everyday use and you just only care about reliability?

im using NGK for my spark plugs, they came already at the right gap, look into getting dual pins as you can get better spark
i usually use caltex oil,ive never had probs with it
filters - ryco are very standard and are usually very reliable, but if you want the best quality and your willing to pay more go up to K&N,especially for the air filter, big improvements

Should do a good job, depends on what sort of money you want to spend i guess.

    I would beg to differ.

    1) K&N Air Filters are proven to let more contamination through than standard filters
    2) K&N Oil Filters have a smaller filtration cross-section and inferior silicone anti-drainback valves.

Grab a Wesfil/Coopers air filter (value for money, same element type as Ryco)
Grab a Ryck oil filter (larger filter area, longer-life neoprene anti-drainback valve)

The genuine parts are the best to use and if ou go tot he right Holden Dealer you won't get ripped off and they are usually cheaper as well.

Any decent brand of oil should do (Nulon, Penrite, Valvoline, caltex etc). I use Nulon synthetic 10W/40 in my VS but many people will say that's too thin and to go 20w/50 or something. Ive used Ryco oil filters and bosch plugs for ages with no hassles but I probably wouldnt recommend K&N air filters. Its just a pain in the arse to clean the filter and clean your MAF so often for minimal gains

I'm with shane_3800. I get so many people coming to my workshop who have "serviced" their own car and wonder why it is running like shit or rattling. All they ever do is drop the oil and maybe change the filter.

I'm aware of this , was just wondering what brands were recommended . Didn't realize the name of the thread mattered that much mate.

Cheers to everyone else that helped out, appreciate it .
