Default Vp 5 litre leaking oil dramaticly

Hey fellas new to the forum and new to engines really. Do minor work at home never really played with internals. Anyhow I have a vp 5 litre and its leaking at rear main well atleast i think it is and also leaking at front. Timing cover? Anyhow hangin to get out and appart to see what else is ####ed. Just wondering how much a basic rebuild with mild cam should roughly sting me? Missing the soo bad lol!

Depends on what cam and who does it.. I was told by mechanic that to replace the rear main seal. Motor has to come out and new rope seal back in and motor back in is about 1000 bucks..

Yeah see if you can get under the car while its warm and see if its leaking from the sump... I thought I had done a rear main in my 304 the other week but lucky for me it was only the sump gasket.

It would run along the upper lip of the sump then leak onto the rear main...tricky.....

Still a massive job either way...

    Thumbs down rear main

Yeah can't actually see exactly where its leaking from just very badly at the rear mate said maybe manifold gasket running down the back of the motor but looks clean up there. So don't now wanna get the motor out and check all the seals prob put a seal kit through it and rings and bearings see whats ####ed i guess just have nowhere to do it coz im in a unit atm.

would be cheaper to buy a 2nd hand engine and throw it back in.. But in saying that you could very well end up with the same issue in a few months...

Well a full rebuild kit off ebay from a reputable company will cost about $800.... But you really need the car on a hoist or ramps to have a good look. It could be coming from the dizzy for all we know...

Id be having a good look before committing to a rebuild or even just throwing a new seal kit in it....

Big bucks if you don't have the space and time to do it yourself...

Degrease it and park it on clean oil free concrete and run it for a but and see if you can find it like that..

    Default no oil

I drained the oil out of it coz kept leaking after hadn't been ran for like 2 weeks and I sounds horrible coz no oil pressure. So rekon I'm gonna try take to mates and get motor out and have a good look. Can't tell in me driveway all I'm seeing is oil leaking on the gearbox cover thing (AUTO) and looks clean up top. I'm thinkin that may have disturbed it when we had the auto out.

Bwhahahahaa - your shitting me aren't you??? You really need to waste as little amount of time that you can getting to your mates to sus it out. The less time the motor runs the better so just get there *fast*

if its the rope seal you can do it in the car but their is a special tool to do it this way and it is a pain in the bum sometimes easier to pull motor out i guess it helped working at holden for me cause i had a hoist and the tool.

bloke, don't bother with it in the car. If it didn't need a rebuild before I'm betting it needs one now.

    Default wtf

What the hell what kinda retard would run it without oil? I was sayin when the oil was in it had no oil pressure so haven't started it since. Then was still leaking oil all over the driveway so drained it to prvent more stains. Also had intenions of rebuild. Anyhow had a closer look seems that its most likely sump gasket but time will tell I'll put more oil and see how goes cause bolts were bit loose.
