Hi all,
just wondering if it's possible to throw a 5 speed manual from a v8 in where a 4 speed auto currently sits in a v6. they're both vp wagons.
i realise it's probably cheaper to go out and find a wagon that already has a manual 'box but hey, i'm crazy like that
cheers
Tim
Old cars, are they really worth all the problems and screw ups?.....yep!
Input shaft and bellhousing are different.
Mechanically, the gearbox will work.
You would need to buy a V6 bellhousing ($50 upward) and a V6 input shaft ($80 upward) and then have the input shaft installed (whatever).

so you're basically saying i need to rip the guts out of the v8 'box and chuck it all into a v6 gearbox shell with a new input shaft?

Morton, are you sure a v6 input shaft would work? i know they are about 40mm longer, but they also have one less tooth on the gear (v8 - 24 tooth, v6 - 23 tooth)

Power is measured in DECIBEL
Just to reiterate, the V6 (23 tooth) input shaft gear, wont mesh with the V8 cluster gear, as per above picture. (all credit goes to another forum member)
Cheers

cheers guys, i'll just have to find me a proper v6 5 speed...probably easier than screwing about swapping bits over
