Default Stereo and dash lights suddenly turned off??

Just as the title decribes, was simply driving down the road and bam, no power to the stereo and all the dash lights turned off? also head lights only go on dim?

The only thing that i can think off is i installed my thermo fan on a switch? could that possibly be the reason.

Pls send ur advise this way

Shouldn't matter about the switch, though how did you wire that switch up, simple solution fuse/s popped

I wired the switch by simply by grounding one of the fan wires, then running a wire from the other wire on the fan to a switch and then straight to the battery. someone told me i need to install a fuse somewhere in there for the switch aswell?

you can get a fuse for the switch,it wont hurt, but as for your lights,it is most likely one of your fuses has blown, check each one and replace whats blown, then see if it all works

I run my thermo switches like this:

    Power - orange thermo wire
    Acc - brown acc wire
Ground (only if there's a light/l.e.d light) - body. (note, if there's no light sometimes it pops the main fuse which = no power at all to the car)
I just find that safer then running it to the battery itself, but either way works.

But with stereo and dash the first fuse must have popped, as this was the case in my mates VP

check all your fuses, and if it is constantly blowing you have a short somewhere

A quick solution is put around the fuse until you figure out the short, did you replace it with the correct fuse?

That happened to me on the freeway once. Got onto parramatta rd in peak hour and the engine just shut off. Got a booster pack from a near by car yard and made it home. Turns out the alternator shit itself. Easy fix.
