Yeah the best way to flush a radiator is from the bottom, up...

So if I was really bored and wanted to do a good job, id firstly drain the old stuff, fill it up with tap water and run the car for 5 mins, drain it, wait for it to cool down, add more tap water and a radiator flush fluid through the system and then take it for a spin for another 10 or 15 mins, drain the water again, remove the radiator and flush the rad with a hose from the bottom hose upwards for a few mins...

The thermostat should be easy to locate. If you look at the top hose, follow it towards the engine, and the dome looking thing that the hose clamps onto should have two 10mm bolts.. Undo that and its under there...

undo one of the heater hoses. stick the garden hose inside the heater hose and turn the heater on, turn the hose on and it will flush the heater and engine at the same time.
