dash lights /headlights

i have a problem with my headlight icon in my speedo when i have my car turned off and turn the parkers or head lights on my dash icon lights up as if every thing is working normally but when i turn my car on and turn my parkers/headlights on there is no dash icon but if i put my high beams on the little blue icon for thats light up fine its got me stuffed on what the problem is

I am no expert but I believe this is a standard feature on the vn's. This option tells you when you have left your lights on with the ignition off (so you dont flatten your battery)... As soon as you turn your ignition on then the light on the dash goes out. The High beam light should light up regardless of whether you have your ignition on or off.
