I doubt it, from everything I hear these oil pumps are pretty good...

In most situations I would be guessing its the timing chain tensioner, but you would have replaced that when you done your chain...
Also is it a double row or single? because if its a double it might be rubbing up against the backing plate on the oil pump (I think that's what its called)...

I'm probably wrong so I'd wait and see what every one else suggest

    Default thanks

Yep i did the tensioner and the balencer. I used a single chain. The original chain did 330,000 kms so its done well and it wasnt to bad it was more the tensioner that was ####ed. So if i have done all this what could the prob be? Did i #### the oil pump when i put cover back on? Thanks again

possibly the balance shaft front bearing? the old rattly timing chain may have been masking the noise, the oil pumps are generally pretty good, either way both are easy to check, should be easy to get the timing cover back off as you've only just done it and replace the $5 gasket when you re-install.
Is the crank sensor adjusted right? if it's hitting the blades that'll make some funky noises from that area.

I took the vn to a mechanic and he said it could be the balance shaft or cam bearings. He said the new chain would be putting more strain on the old cam and causing this noise. I think its time to sell my vn 5 spd im over the ####ing car. Cheers
