Hey,
i just got my opens and want to put an 8 in my v6 vp commodore but don't know what i need.
Whats the main differences that'll i need to cater for if i get a vs 5 litre?
Thanks,
Drew.
Cheaper to sell yours and by an 8
really? i've seen 5 litres for about a grand. Plus i really want to keep this car.
thanks though
+1 for VY Rossi's comment - much cheaper (and much less hassle) to just buy a 5ltr VP instead of converting.... looms, kframe, ecu, tranny etc etc...would be more than about a grand bud.
Easy as conversion, and cost way way less then it would to buy a VS V8.
But cheaper if you sell the car you already have and throw your coin for the conversion at a VS V8
You will only need a v8 k frame and the engine/harness + ECU and box/ tail shaft. The wiring harness is the easiest thing to do as long as you have an index finger and a thumb to run the wires through the firewall and plug in your new ECU...lol...
It can be done in a driveway in a weekend of you have a jack, engine crane and a few car stands and get stuck into it.
The hardest part of the conversion is the K frame, once that's in then its no different to removing a v8 engine and putting it back in...
The v6 fuel pump you have in your car already is fine for the 304. Im running one from a v6 donor car that had the exact thing your asking about done to it not long ago, at that point we didn't realize the pumps were the same, but I have had zero issues running the v6 pump for my v8.
You wont need it to be engineered because that model car came out with the V8 just a blue slip because of the engine number change.
You can pick up an engine for about $700 on ebay if your patient and a box isn't much more... But look for a write off of a package so you get everything your after at once...
The diffs are the same ratio but are they the same size?
If you do do it, buy a complete car for the bits. Then you know you have EVERYTHING and save you a million expensive trips to the wreckers.
+2 for rossies comment there cheap cars its not worth doing unless its a street machine.

VP's or at least the series 2 have the same rotors and callipers as the V8's, the difference is the brake booster which is a double bladder type in the V8's, in any case the booster is the main difference in the braking performance between the two. You can keep the diff and fuel tank from the V6. You need the Motor, gearbox, front springs, radiator, k-frame, loom from the V8 and the top of the airbox. The ecu is the same, but you need a different memcal for it. If you lift the front of the donor car off the front suspension/engine/k-frame/gearbox by undoing the k-frame, struts and gearbox mount you can lower the other car over it, swap the radiator and loom and be done. That's the easiest way
Thanks for your replies guys. I'm thinking of just putting a new 6 in it for now and when i have more $$$ and time maybe doing the conversion. for now i'll just keep looking for an 8 rightoff.
Cheers
