    Default Fuel Pump, Tank ?

    Hi i have a vp wagon that needs a new fuel pump,in the manual it says i need to remove the fuel tank is this so or can i just get the pump out.Thanks

    pump can be removed without removing the tank , raise the vehicle and disconnect the panhard rod , surport the vehicle by the body not the diff to allow the diff to hang down and give more room to remove the pump .

    Thanks mate, is it a pain of a job or not to hard ? a guy at work got charged $400 for it on his vt, i dont want to pay that for my old vp

    Pretty easy... Just use a trolley jack if u have one to support the tank, the hardest part is getting to the clamps on the hoses really....

    Cool i'll give it a go,one more thing i have a full tank of fuel how far down do i need to get tank? i can get the car started [ hit the tank ] don't really want to drain a full tank if i can get away with it

    Well you should by rights remove it entirely. If you spill a few liters then its only a loss of about $5.. A decent price to pay seeing a mechanic quoted you $400 to do it...

    Its not a $400 job, Its an hour at the very most if you don't remove the tank. Ive done a couple laying on my back with axle stand's supporting the car. Itl be a hell of alot easyer with a hoist !
