jack, rip those rocker covers off and give them a coat of vht satin black, will suit your engine bay nicely
should have plenty left over to do the water pump & pwr steering pulley also and still have 3/4 of a can to do something with....

and what it should look like for an idea...

good to see someone showing one of these old girls some tlc

yeah i got my 1st vn as a run around, orig engine shat itself cause the previous owners must've put kmart oil through it and maybe changed it every 20,000 km judging by the state it was in, gave it some good penrite oil being a high km engine, spun a bearing moving it before it was even on the road, i was pissed i didn't even rev it.... close to 1" of sludge sitting in the heads and valley, apparently when the oil is thick and cold you have a 2nd sump on top of the engine...

2 ebay special $100-200 engines that both died meeting the same demise (never trust anyone that says it's a low k motor and was a great runner before they removed it, always listen to it in a car and rev it to at least 3000 rpm on a cold start, if they had it warmed up before you start it, walk away)

i've learnt to atleast strip a buick v6 down and check its bearing's/oil pump for wear/grooves and spend a couple of hundred bucks on gaskets & other minor bits before you fit it... i didn't even get to thrash mine will make up for it now though 3 years later................

If your lucky . . Some VN come out with Alloy Rocker Cover on them. When i removed mine, which i thought were just the plastic ones, realised that they were actually cast alloy, just painted the same colour as the plastic type. Stipped off the paint, put them on the buff so i've ended up with the factory look in a mirror version . . Couldn't be happier

i looked at my rocket covers 2 day some of the paint has peeled of them and there alloy or some sort of metal any way haha so i might strip off the paint and polish them does this also mean i could have the forged internals iv heard some of the early buicks with metal rocket covers have

s1 rocker covers were alloy with the breather pipe to the tb going into one, s2 onwards plastic and solid except for the filler cap as the breather went to the intake manifold.
the cam in the s1 has higher lift and longer duration than s2/vp/vr, one of the reasons a s1 goes harder it's not all about not having that plastic bellmouth in it

*ROCKER covers, there's no rockets in your engine bay. Specially if it's a V6 :P
Cheap, fast, reliable.....you only get to choose two.

are you sure? i've seen some vn's getting around that the driver thinks they've got a rocket under there

as for the parts used in the v6, this is a decent write up about the history, changes and what parts were used in the different revisions, no major changes for forced induction till the later ev-6 (vr era) http://www.enginebuildermag.com/Arti...ck_engine.aspx and even then it's just a difference in the casting mark on the conrod and a lower compression piston, the early v6 only ran 8.5:1 compression ratio so forcing some air down it's throat would be fine, vr they stepped up to 9:1 in the na version
