Default vn auto transmission not shifting correctly

    Hey,
my vn is being prepared fro a road worthy when I serviced the transmission it was previously removed from the car so as the manual said I added about 10 litres of trans oil.
As there must have stilll been some oil in there it turns out that the transmission is reading a fair bit above the normal line.
So when driving i noticed that the transmission had been shifting a bit late.
Could this be because it is overfilled?
The manual says to check that the throttle cable is supposed to be correctly adjusted but i cannot understand how this would make a difference?

    Thanks

Sorry to sound like an asshole.. But seriously.

You've overfilled your transmission oil, and you expect it to work as per normal?

Your auto-transmission box; is so fragile. It was designed with specifications in mind; that were to be followed.

So basically, my advice is to drop the oil, and re-fill it with new trans oil.

*EDIT*: To ensure all of the old oil escapes the box.. Start the engine for 10 minutes, or go for a spin for a while to warm the box up. It will thin the oil and allow almost all of it to drain.

If it's overfilled drain some out. You don't have to drop the pan just un do one of the trans cooler hoses near the radiator and start the engine it will pump some of the oil out. Check the level and refill.
It's the transmission control control cable that needs adjustment. It connects to the throttle mechanism.

thanks guys, by the way its not way overfilled, its just abou 2cm above the hot line. I was waiting for a chance to drive it around then drain some out, and keep driving it so i can make for certain that it is at the correct level.
    Cheers

Yes i do and have done it a few times, but in the manual it said if you are experiencing rough shifts to ensure that the throttle cable not the kickdown cable is adjusted correctly.
But I honestly do not see how this could make a difference? could somebody explain. Once i correct the fluid level i will move the kickdown cable a notch at a time in a direction to see if i can get it to change just a little nicer.

Basically I reet the cable by putting it all the way in one direction then slowly opened the throttle, from the bonnet until it stoped clicking, which was at the open most position of the throttle.
This is the way I interpreted the way to do it from my gregories. but I please tell whether you think I have done it incorrectly.

Should i invest in a new kickdown cable just for reassurance.
    ,
Basically I accept the fact that the transmission is probably old and needs rebuilding, however right now my main mission is to get it on road before Christmas and if I could re adjust/play around with the transmission to get it to shift a bit better that would be great.

    Thanks

Also just to add the transmission when cold in the morning engages in all drive and reverse selections, there is no hesitation at all and it engages without making a thud at all. And from my little experience of driving the car it seemed to shift down seamlessly also. Just thought this may be useful information for a resolution from people who know more about transmissions than myself

When I adjusted mine I tightened it and pushed the accelerator pedal down to the floor. It was a bit harsh on the changes so I moved it one or two clicks towards the throttle body (slackens the cable) and it changed nicer. I can't see how the accelerator cable has anything to do with it, if it stretches then you just don't get WOT?

Ok so moving the black adjusting thing towards the passenger side loosens the cable which makes the sifts smoother.
My dad has a vaccum pump so i might use that with its small hose down the dipstick to remove some oil.
Im just scared that taking one transmission cooler line off will mean that the other will suck in air and so will create an airlock in the transmission, have you personally removed trans oil that way from a car before?
    Thanks
