When I got my 304 VP it never had that piece that goes into the front of the airbox and draws cold air from above the front bumper, sort of. Just had a big rectangular hole, and when you gave it a bit of stick, once it got above 3000 rpm it sounded like a real hotrod from all the induction noise :-) Anyway, today I picked one up from the wreckers for the princely sum of three dollars and what a difference. At speeds below 3000 rpm there used to be a low level gritty growl proportional to how much you put your foot down that spoiled the smoothness of the car - now it is greatly reduced. But so is the > 3000 rpm sound - rats!
There is one minor problem though - the open end of the plastic nozzle that pokes between the radiator bracket and the other side of the opening seems to be about 6-7mm too wide and so the inlet is partially blocked, maybe 20% or so. Maybe i should post a photo but it's dark right now. The nozzle was off a 3.8 but I think there all the same. Is it actually supposed to poke all the way through?
Righto.
Car is parked right next to neighbour's car and a flash pic in the dark might have them coming out to see what's happening.
This pretty much explains what is going on.
This pic shows one of the brackets at the side of the radiator. See how it is angled outwards? Are they supposed to be like that or has someone jammed in a radiator that is too wide?
Think mine is the same.. Will make sure when I get home
Nope not the same. Must have been my other car I had.. This is mine..

That one is all round and curvy, mine is square like a lunch box. Hmmm...
Is the v8 and v6 air boxes different?
The top is but the bottom?
More pics of square airbox.
V6 and V8 airboxes are exactly the same. The only difference is that SV one you saw which from memory actually has a hole in the middle to go in the guard. Easiest solution rip out that snorkel cut the hole bigger problem solved.
