Forgive me if I'm a bit vague as I'm not really a "car person" so my knowledge of them isn't great.

I have a 1990 VN Commodore and about a week ago I noticed that after I started the car and put it in drive it started accelerate slowly by itself, as though the accelerator was somewhat locked on. It's still happening but I don't really notice it whilst driving.

At about the same time I also noticed that if I turn the engine off and start it up again a minute or 2 later the car won't start. It's as though the battery is flooded and if I wait 5-10 mins it starts fine again. Presumably these 2 things are connected?

The car is very, very old and obviously not worth a whole lot and I plan to buy a new car in a few months but I'm just wondering whether this sounds like something I should get checked out by a mechanic? Keeping in mind that I'm not really interested in spending too much money on it.

As long as I don't start it straight after I have turned the engine off it doesn't cause me any issues but I guess I have no idea whether it could cause further problems or anything like that..?

I'd appreciate any opinions you guys have..

Thanks.
