Default Need some quick assistance regarding rocker covers and oil...

So I have oil on my exhaust and it is annoying the hell out of me! My question is can u get a slight oil leak from busted rocker cover gaskets? Should I replace them? As I'm booked in for a rwc this Monday it's gotten me quite agitated! After all the work I've done this happens. Any help is great thanks in advance.

I am assuming it is a V6? You could get a leak, how long have they been in service? If you have recently had them off have they been re-fitted correctly?

Yes, Its more than likely whats leaking. You can replace the gaskets, or you could just clean it up and poo it back on (with RTV).

Personally I would just degrease it before your inspection.

replacing your rocker cover gaskets isnt that hard. but you could just clean up the oil for inspection and do the gaskets at your convenience. depends on how mad there leaking... takes me about 40 mins to an hour to do mine...

Yeah I'll probably replace them as I've organized to trade for another car after the rwc. Dont want to rip the other person off.

But about degreasing the exhaust (so it looks tidier) should it be cold or should I have the engine running?

i normally do it cold engine off. try not to get your coil packs and leads and such wet. ive got one of those 5 dollar pump sprayers from bunnings and fill it with degreaser, get those hard to reach places.
