I have a 1989 Vn Calais On Dual Fuel And at the moment it wont start it tries to turn over but alternator turns to slow i have replaced the alternator with a new one i have also replace the computer from another vn commodore I have new battery but when i tried to start it drains the battery to fasted and the battery terminal get very hot i don't know what wrong with it any help will be most appreciated thanks
Sounds like the starter might be faulty and is drawing to much current
The Starter Motor was replaced with a vs/vr one when we took motor out don't want to take motor to replace started motor again
just make sure the computer you changed has the same numbers on the memcal chip, otherwise the car will run like a pig. think the memcal changes after october 89. ive got one built july 89 and i put a later computer in it not knowing. 88greenvn schooled me...
dont sweat the petty... pet the sweaty...
My Computer for the Calais doesn't have a number on it at all so does anyone else have any other suggestion why my car wont go i have a vn Calais with vr head and valley would like some more information fi any one can tell me why Calais want start thanks
thought id mention you have to unscrew the case to the ecu and look at the actual numbers on the memcal... and you can change the starter without taking out the motor...

was it starting after you had the engine out? is the big black negative lead connected to the engine block properly?
if all the leads are connected right it sounds like a stuffed starter motor (can you turn the engine over by hand? to rule out something wrong with the engine eg. spun bearing)
having vr heads and intake manifold shouldn't cause any problems like this.
It started fine when we put motor back in and it turns fine by using a 30mm open ended spanner we put a new vs starter motor in when we took engine out
grab a single heavy duty jumper lead, connect 1 clamp to the NEGATIVE on the battery and the other to a good clean earth point on the engine (alternator bracket works well)
once that is done see if it'll turn over normally.
If it does make a difference then make sure the negative lead going to the block near the engine mount is secure and clean and hasn't fallen off.
If it is the same replace the starter motor again cause you may have a dud, don't continue to turn it over as you'll probably cook the jumper lead and cars normal starter cables,
another test you might want to try is giving the starter motor a good solid thump with a lump of wood or a hammer (on a metal part not the bakerlite cap on the solenoid), it may be a temporarily fix if there's a prob with the starter motor.
