This has been covered many many many times but here we go again. Ok series 1 vn has the radiator cap on what appears to be the over flow bottle. Some series 1 VN's also had black front and rear bars.

There's no such thing as a series 1 or a series 2 VN. There were a lot of running changes especially to the engine resulted in the cooling system changes. Towards the end of production the motor that went into the VP was used.
Executives had black bumpers, Berlina's and Calais had painted bumpers throughout production as did the LE, Vacationer....

thats what i thought. theres no real ser1 or 2 just running changes. 88greenvn OCR'd a bunch of info about running changes to the vn but i cant find it anymore. the cam, valve springs, and memcal tune change in oct 89 (less aggressive torque curve).

From what I understand there's not much that wasn't changed internally in the engines before the VP type motor went in. I also understand the rockers changed for example.
The early VN's had a huge amount of low down grunt and from what I was told being "heavy footed" used to damage the rear suspension bushes for one.

From what i remember, anything before october 1989 had heaps of low down torque (Have owned 2 pre-october 89 VN's, miss them both for this reason)
Wortus, you are right, rockers changed. Cam also changed slightly
Is there such a thing as too much power?
    I BELIEVE NOT

wrong, the execs had charcoal coloured bumpers not black, different coil packs on series 1 to series 2, different cooling system, series 1 i think had the belmouth in the plenum. and many other things.

The use of the EV6 (the vp motor) in September 89 is what was considered the series two. Not sure if there was anything officially called series 2 but it was definately related to as series 2 in the dealer network.
*I could be wrong with the year it may have been 1990*

Then it would be the early (generally considered as the series 1) VN.

My VN sedan was built in late October 1990 and had a surge tank (early type cooling system) without the overflow bottle on the passengers side.
