    Default Dash Cluster

    Hey guys
I had a stock vn dash cluster basic fuel, speedo and temp guages.

i just got a cheap one off a mate that has the rev counter, speedo, temp, fuel.

but for some reason the rev guage kinda goes but dies.. just wondering what do I have to do to actually have it working properly like wire wise?

line them up side by side and play spot the difference (from the back), make sure there the same. sounds like they might be different clusters all together. if your going to use a different cluster you have to rearrange some of the pins on the cluster plug (if you know what your doing)...

you could take it apart and replace the unit with one from a donor cluster. dosent matter what cluster it comes from vn to vs there all the same.

Common for the VN tacho's to stick apparently, had a VN S that had a sticky tach and used to stay around the 2000rpm mark while driving. Very easy to change it to a VR/S tach and they work a lot smoother

Done this a few times for VN clusters and works a treat. Kills VR or VS clusters for the tacho's but there is plenty of them around to part out

yes i done it to my VP cluster under your advice 88GreenVN (advice for someone else on another thread)
Tach works really smooth, never sticks. Also done the voltage reg and changed the fuel/temp gauges (they were sticking as well) and havent had a problem since

The gauges and speedo head are all the same fit to a VN cluster (Level 1 and Level 2) It's the backing and voltage regulator that is different between the VN-VP and the VR-VS clusters. The gauges are a straight swap.

It your cluster is a different shap - it's probably a level 3 gauge set - and no it wont change over to a level 1 or level 2 cluster.

yeah i was thinking that, its tight enough (used a spanner just to tight it but not like when tightening up a wheel nut)

If the tacho is getting upset then it may be faulty with a cracked solder joint of resistor on the blink. I've not had a VR VS tacho die on me yet - but I guess they are now getting to the age when it can happen. I'd say 90% of VN tacho's are faulty in the reading tho - with very slow movement as the revs change.
