Hey guys just put a VN V6 into my VK, i gave the V6 a full rebuild bottom to top before i put it in and just wondering how i should go about running it in, any help would be grate, cheers.
put some cheap oil in it of factory viscocity not to waste your money, and take it for a long drive around 100km for its first run, dont thrash it or boot it everywhere, try not to go past half its supposed to be a nice smooth run in. after about 400-450kms give it abit to make sure everythings running nicely at WOT. then change the oil with some more expensive stuff, check your coolant and fluid levels, and youl be finealso while running it in keep an eye on engine temp as everything is under high friction cause its all new.
Thanks heaps mate.
Ive always just driven mine like i would normally, only varying the cruising rpms a bit more than usual. Couple hundred kms under the belt then i let have it! I change the oil 3 times within the first 2000kms.
I found there is no definitive "right" or Wrong" way to do it. I just go by my way in which i believe it gets run in the best, had no failures and no issues.
Hit me up with some reputation points if i've helped you out! (Star in the bottom left!) Cheers!

i know of a mechanic, danny from just right automotives he built a 4 litre storker patrol engine, or something crazy like that for a big monster of a shorty GQ, engine barely warmed upp on its first start, no rev limiter as it was removed, foot flat to the floor in neutral the thing was SCREAMING at like 9000-10000RPM and i stood back thinking a piston would fly at me, after 20-30 seconds of it, he goes.....if it was gna break, it wouldve broken then.
that patrol now has 80000kms on that motor, and hard offroad work to and is still going strong, that was his break in LOL. doesnt matter just asllong as u service it more often and make sure it doesnt get hot or anything you will be fine.
When I had mine rebuilt, I put some cheap oil in it, Magnatec I think. After first turning it on, I took it around the neighborhood for about 30 minutes, drained it, to get rid of all the dissolved assembly lube. Put more magnatec in, drove it for about 1500km, normal use, which includes highways, and suburban. Drained that oil, put some good, synthetic stuff in, and had it dyno tuned.

When you first crank it keep the revs up around 2500rpm to circulate the oil then drive the thing for 1000k, vary long distance rpm and don't idle for prolonged periods, keeping an eye on fluids and temp, change oil and drive it.
yeah dont start it till u got full oil pressure hey, other then that go out and drive it dont be soft on it... and plz for the sake of a few bucks but decent fkn oil.....

Yeah just start the ####ing thing, don't wind it over for 5 minutes wiping the lube off everything.
