Hey guys
Once again I've resulted back to this forum to try and fix and issue with this car.
We had bad hail and rain on Xmas and we drove through some pretty steep waters ( not sure if that's the cause or not) but last few days I've tried to turn the old beast over it just makes a clicking noise.
I first thought it was the battery but I've charged it overnight and it still doesn't seem to turn it over.
Maybe I need a new batterie? My next though was the starter motor as that seems to be where the clicking noise is coming from. Can this get water damage?
Any help would be awesome guys

Try putting another known good battery in the car, just to rule out yours being poked.
Otherwise starter motor is the likely cause. First check all connections are good (the excitor and the positive feed from the battery) Then pull it off and take it to an auto elecytrician to bench test it.
If you wanna bench test it yourself, hold it in a vice, clip your negative jumper lead to the vice and positive jumper lead to the positive battery lug, then run a lead from that to the exciter. Hold a bit of wood against the pinion to put a bit of load on it when you test it.
Tried giving the starter motor a few taps with something while trying to start it?
So I've managed to be able to jump start it with cables took a bit but it turned over. Left it running for a while turned it off then when to turn it on again (without jumpers) but again same problem. So seeing i can jump start it im guessing its not the starter motor.
The batterie I replaced with another good one but doing the exact same thing just ticking over, it might be the batterie clamps themselves they are slightly corroded but hasn't made a difference in the past and seeing as I get full reds on the dash and power to my stereo, lights and other instruments also assumed that wasn't the problem.
The starter is drawing a hell of a lot more current than your dash lamps and stereo. Replace your corroded battery clamps.
Also I think its unlikely hitting the starter will help, as this will only help a stuck solenoid. If the starter is clicking it means the solenoid is working.
Follow this as a guide for diagnosis, Stater doesnt turn -> battery flat ? -> Dirty battery terminals -> poor earth -> Faulty starter solenoid or switch -> open circuit between ignition switch and solenoid -> Internal starter fault.
Good luck
