Im picking up a set of VE 18" rims for my VP Calais tomorrow night....
Now I know ill need tyres that are either 225's or 235's?? (As im told the VE 245's will scrub on any earlier commodores)
Will the tyres scrub on the back with 225's due to the VP Calais having a different offset to other commodores?
As I have rodney jane 17's at the moment with 235's and they dont scrub at all..
Thanks all
more importantly i think the holes need to be machined wider to fit vb to vz. unless there already done....
dont sweat the petty... pet the sweaty...
Yeah I know about the machining bit, That isn't a problem..
How much do you need to machine out to make them fit? Some pics when you get them on too please..
Yes, the VE tyres will scrub on the struts.. I had the same issue when i got my supersports..
they need to be changed because there the wrong profile not the width, 245 tyres will fit I think you need 235/30R18 and the VE is 245/45R18. You need 35p offset wheels so buy some longer wheels studs and a 8mm wheels spacer or VR trail arms to change the offset to VR 43p. Machine the centre so it fits onto the VP hubs. And maybe search this topic as it's been covered a thousand times before
Maybe we need a sticky on wheels?
mr calais, you just have to machine out a little lip that is in the centre of the rim where the rim sits on the hub... If that makes sense?
And I will get some pictures once Ive got them on, I really should make a my ride thread for my car...
and ducker85, I have been searching but I have had trouble trying to find out what people have used for tyres on the rims, I know about the rest of it, as in what wheel nuts to use and what has to be machined, etc.
Also does anyone know of places to get the rims machined in Albury Wodonga? And failing that, otherwise Melbourne? Since im always down there anyway..
You should be able to go to your local tyre shop or autopro and buy the correct nuts they are the same but just have a larger chamfer where it'll met the rim's.
Pretty sure its 225 thru to 245 40 series and 18 inch diametre (the easy one) again any tyre shop can fill you in it's just the standard size 18 inch tyres for VB thru to VZ
VP Calais is a different offset to normal. I doubt you will get them to fit properly.
Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like
I know there 35p not the common 48p like I said they will fit with longer studs and a 8mm spacer I have done it before and know where there is a VP calais on VE series 2 SS wheels so they can and will fit
Spacers are a poor way to get rims to fit.

I also suggested using the VR trails arms and axle to convert it to VR offset 48p if you read my post #6 on here
I did see that. Why any one would go to all that time and effort for a set of rims is beyond me.

hey some people will do crazy things to there car's Im just helping them get the correct info. I got a VR diff for my VP but Im converting to back to VP offset from my other (3rd) diff before it goes into the car. But im do things differently anyway so
Did you get the rims machines and on the car?
with my vp calais international i have irs and would like to fit ve ss 18's as well what problems will this bring me if any?cheers.
To be honest I havent had time to fit mine on, planning to take some holidays next month to go to sydney to get the rims machined out then.
I'm going to a place in Sydney to get them machined in two weeks for $110, then I might look at fitting either 225's or 235's and see how much (if anything) it rubs at the back. As I have 235/45/17inch Rodney Jane rims and tyres fitted at the moment and they never rub and still have a gap between the irs arms and inner guard on the inner side of the rims..
