Gday guys.. I had 2 Diffs That were both for a vp wagon.. Both are the same ratio... But the gears themselves are slightly different.. Why would they be different? And what would the difference be?

U could give more info but they both look the same to me if u have both housings look for a tag hanging from a bolt if u find the tag use that diff coz it will be a LSD and if u get bogged you will only need traction on one wheel if you get bogged whereas a standard diff u need traction on both
the only other thing use the crown wheel with the matching pinion there could be slightly different angles between the both causing them to eat each other out.. aside from that the centres are essentially the same!
I know their both different.. One is black and one is silver. And the one on the right has deeper teeth, but the other has a thicker base.. The colour of the pinion gears match the crowns.. Would one be stronger.
the crown and pinion gear are made/machined as a matching set, the difference mainly is 1 will work in the rear axle you're trying to put it in with its paired pinion, the other won't (it'll make all sorts of wonderful noises and you shouldn't swap them just because "it looks stronger", it won't mesh correctly and you may even end up with the magical sparkling diff oil that shines in sunlight)
The difference in the color, lets just settle for the silver one was made on a friday right before beer o'clock and they didn't paint it, maybe just a slightly different metal composition used for that day, if you get some degreaser and rub the black one a bit it might be silver to
